Has There Ever Been a Movie Made About Arminius or Hermann?

I was wondering has there ever been a movie made about arminius or I call him herman, and the battle between the germans and the romans where 20,000 romans were slaughtered in the dark woods of germany. I have a interest in military history and I think that story which happened in 9 A.D. was one of the most important and fascinating stories ever. It would make a great movie because of the importance in history and was one of the most scariest battles stories in history. I have seen a documentary on the history channel about the battle but I am surprised that no english version has ever been made that Im aware of. Has there been a movie made in Germany about the battle?

Not that I know of, but I'm rather young. I think that it would be a great idea, even if it was cast in a somewhat mythological form like 300, I was so happy when that film was made as it helped make European people proud of their heritage again, there wasn't a single PC message in the entire film. I find it amazing that 300 was even made due to the liberal dominance of Hollywood. A film about Germanics throwing aside their differences to unite against a multicultural, decadent invader would be wonderful even with historical discrepencies.

Probably would never happen. Hollyweird already knows what significance Herman has to us. I would guess the same goes for the Battle of Tours.

Not exactly a film, but you would all probably enjoy the German series Die Germanen, here is a bit about the varusschlacht:

There was a silent movie from the 1920's, Die Hermannschlacht.

    Die Hermannschlacht

Another one in 1967, made by West Germany/Italy, Massacre in the Black Forest, Hermann der Cherusker - Die Schlacht im Teutoburger Wald (original title), one can read about it here. Apparently it was also played in the US, dubbed in English.

    Die Schlacht im Teutoburger Wald

American movies not that I know of, however, according to Wikipedia:

Americana Pictures' first film, The Liberator (which is to be based on the history of Arminius and the Battle of the Teutoberg Forest), is to be released in 2010. Miller also plans to produce a film about the USS Liberty incident, which he referred to as a "shocking Israeli attack" on the United States.

The movie The Liberator will be filmed in Hermann, Missouri, a town known for its German-American heritage and which was named after Arminius. This decision caused a controversy among area residents.

As a matter of fact, the Third Reich did make a movie about Arminius in 1936. I don't know what it was called, but there are several clips from it in this episode about the Battle of the Teutoburger Wald from the 1990s series Archaeology:

    http://angerburg.blogspot.com/2010/0...-arminius.html

Start watching the video marked "Part One" and fast forward to 4:33. The title card says "German Film - 1936."

When I viewed the exhibition about Arminius in the Detmold Museum last summer, segments of this film were being shown on a video monitor. Unfortunately, I can't recall the film's name. It is not available on video, as far as I know.

But yes, the Third Reich did make a sound film about Arminius and his victory.
