    Introduce Myself

Hello! I just found this site today as I research information about the ethnic German people from the Kikinda in Serbia. My mother, aunt, grandmother, and other relatives of my grandmother were on the last train of refugees out of Kikinda before the Russian army arrived. I've heard many stories from my mother and aunt while I was a small child. Now, I've tried to find answers to what happened and when to help my aunt fill in the blanks in her memory. I know we lost all other relatives in that town who did not leave that night. My mother and aunt were refugess for many years in Austria before they came to the United States. Their family name was Angner and my grandfather was Josef Angner. He died a few years earlier leaving my grandmother a widow with 2 young daughters.

I'm interested in any information anyone can provide and I'm also intested in reading through many of the other threads.

Hi Linda (That was also the name of my first girlfriend, when I was 6 years old) and welcome to Skadi forum. I hope you find more information about your family. There has been some talk about a site that helps you to track your family: http://www.ancestry.com/

I havnt used it myself, since I dont have any relatives (as I know) living outside Scandinavia. There are people here who could help you with tracking your family. All the best!

    Welcome.
Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.

    Welcome.

I also have ancestors who were ethnic Germans living in the Eastern part of Europe before World War II. It was the brothers of my great grandmother who immigrated to Minnesota in the early 20th century. It's nice to hear a story of your family's past in the former German territories. I will share with you a short story I have with my relatives.

My great grandmother's family lived in Southern Bohemia. She immigrated to Minnesota in the 1920's, but most of her family was still living in Bohemia during WWII, during the time the Czechs had expelled the German population from the area. With that, the brothers of my great grandmother have fled to Germany after the war and settled there. This is a summary of a 4 page story sent to my family in the 1970's.

Perhaps you still have living relatives over in Germany or Austria who are also descendants of your ancestors who fled from Serbia. And maybe they have some missing information or similar stories of their ancestor's fleet just like the one above passed down to them. It pays to get in touch with them, if possible, or even better yet, try to visit them. A relative of ours from came over from Germany who was descendend from one of great grandmother's brothers to visit my mother's family in Minnesota in the 1970's. Hopefully you will get the chance to have the same thing happen to you.

Did your grandparents stay in Austria or did they immigrate as well? If they still remained in Austria, there is a good chance they have living descendents there today. They may have the missing links to stories of your family. If you can identify who they are, by all means try get ahold of them. If all permits, plan a trip over to the old country where they live someday to visit them, or maybe they'd like to come to the states and visit you! Either way, they could be the source of valuable information you're searching for, or if nothing else, a chance to meet and get to know distant family members. I never met my relative that came to MN in the 70's, but I was able to identify the town and address to were they lived in some old letters mailed to us from them. If you have old letters, photos, or stories mailed over from relatives, that would be the place to check to locate the address of your living relatives today.

You may also be able to locate the address of some of your relatives using the link provided below, provided you know the family name and the city of location.

    Best wishes yours

I thought I would take a moment to introduce myself. When I first began the forum I just said a brief "hello".

My name is Kayla and I am 22 years old. I am married and have two wonderful children 4 and 2 (they are my husbands from a previous marriage, but I love them as if they were my own.

I have lived in the same place my whole life, the population of my town is about 11,000 people and it is located about 30 miles Northwest of San Antonio. I graduated high school in 2006, I always made good grades and participated in school functions. My town has an excellent accredited education system, it has been noted natiowide for its excellent Advanced Placement Program, which has unusually high participation and success rates compared to similar schools around the United States. We have also one multiple state championships in varying sports. Okay, enough bragging about my hometown

I am a very family oriented person. Without them I would not be who I am today, they have always been supportive of me in everything I do. I am probably one of the nicest people you will ever meet. I love to have fun, hanging out with friends, going dancing, going out, girls nights, doing anything outdoors (hunting, camping, and fishing), I love the beach, I am a total beach bunny I love a good Margarita on occasion. I am a very happy person and I love to laugh and smile. I enjoy the simple things in life, every moment is worth living, and I would never take anything back, because then I would not be the person that I am today.

I am a preschool teacher, I love kids. I would adopt 10 of them if I could!

I cannot stand people who think they know me. I am sorry but if you and I have talked for ony 5 minutes at a time, and you have only seen me a few times, that does not qualify you as "knowing" me. I am not an actress, I am myself. If you do not like me, then fine, you don't know me. I have never met anyone who doesn't like me, I am sorry if that sounds conceded, but it is true.

In high school I was nominated for prettiest eyes, best personality, and most congenial. I worked for 2 years for a special education class, it was a very rewarding job. I also worked as a teacher's assistant for 2 years in high school and college. I have taken numerous child development courses. I also love design (Fashion and Architectural).

I love life and most everything about it.
