    Smile New User Introduction

Hello my name is Nick Geurds and I am new to Skadi. I am 22 and currently in process of becoming a European History teacher. I look forward to making new friends who share a common interest with me. I have a strong interest in German history, culture, and migration. Any help or views on my ancestry research would be greatly appreciated.

My Ancestry: My fathers side is Dutch. My grandfather is from Zevenaar and was a part of the Dutch Resistance. He also told me that his grandfather told him that their ancestors were German. My mothers side is mostly British and German. I have been researching on my mothers side for about 3 years now. I have ran into several holes, while searching for answers. I had an Ancestry.com account, but I can no longer afford it. The German surnames on my mothers side that I have found are: Neue, Ristow, Schartz, and Siedersleben. If you can find any information on these names it would really help me out. Also in the 1880's Karl and Wilhelmine Neue resided in Wilsleben (now a prt of: Aschersleben, Germany). Aschersleben is in Saxony-Anhalt. My question is: where does Siedersleben come from? I have read that "leben" came from the Varni tribe, which is a little known Eastern Germanic tribe, which they are believed to have migrated from Varend, Sweden. Can you help me find any other information? Thank you in advance!
