This is a forum for germanics and their kin. While we respect the French and Irish this is not where they are celebrated generally.

Where do you think the Irish got their red hair from?

Charlegmaine may have sentenced Saxon Pagans to death, but he thwarted the Moorish invasion and kept them confined to the Iberian Peninsula, so we are not followers of Islam...

why do irish not qualify as Germanic? i heard they had been mixed with the Romans many years ago during the roman empire. is that why? or is it because of more cultural reasons?

Most Irish strongly identify as Celt not as Germanic. Celts are respected and befriended but this is not a celtic forum.

Genetically there is a lot of similarity. Personally I am comfortable with the Irish in me blending well with the Swede.

I think also a Germanic foundation/founding father of the country in question is preferable.

Where did you hear that? The Romans never invaded Ireland.

Do the people in this Thread read their history? Especially of the Migration Period and the Viking Age and prior? You will find that Ireland is a great mix between the Gaelic Celts (many of which came from the Iberian Peninsula - Julius Ceasar actually commented that the Scotti tribes in Britain were quite similar to the Iberians) and the Scandinavians (the Norwegians originally founded Dublin as a trading post)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Viking_Expansion.svg

The French Normans were descended from Danish Jarls who had been given Nobility rights. The Franks (whom the country France was named after...
A.C. Murray says, "The etymology of Franci" is uncertain ('the fierce ones' is the favourite explanation), but the name is undoubtedly of Germanic origin."

This is not new information. It does not change that both French and Irish cultures are not primarily Germanic cultures.

This does not change that skadi is not a pan-european board or a north-west european board.

Having Germanic heritage includes self perception and culture as well as genealogy. Some French are Germanic or primarily Germanic as are some Irish. The countries as a whole are not considered Germanic.

French of course not but i did not know if it was from a racial perspective or a cultural perspective.
French are of Latin background but what if a french person was born in raised in England or Germany and only spoke Germanic languages and lost ties with there french background,
could the same rule apply to the Irish?
