Hello, I am prochronism, and I am from the USA. I first started getting into germanic-related themes when I realized that everyone else was taught to be proud of their heritage, except for my race, which was taught to feel guilt. I started to question this, and started to delve into who my people were/are. My father's family, and half of my mother's family are German. Apparently there is still a farm in Germany that bears our last name, which I have always wanted to go see, and maybe even purchase one day if I am lucky enough for that to be possible. The other half of my mother's family is Irish with the tale of an english sea-captain thrown in for good measure.
I guess I first started to notice a difference between cultures/race as a child. I always felt uncertain about myself in that I was very sensitive, quiet and thoughtful compared to others, loved the outdoors (while most girls my age did not), and seemed to enjoy many things that my peers did not (I grew up as rap and the whole white-kids-wanting-to-be-black thing started to really take hold). It was when I lived in Miami that I truly noticed a strong difference between races in almost every realm. I hated the heat, the loud people covered in perfume/cologne, the anger that certain people directed towards me when I told them I didn't speak Spanish, and just about everything else that the "celebration of diversity" around me entailed.
I noticed that this celebration wasn't so much about diversity as about celebrating every other culture than mine. I wanted to celebrate my heritage, not feel guilty about it while celebrating other's heritages, (heritages which truthfully I didn't like very much). Perhaps that is wrong, I don't know. I find people consider me an 'evil racist' when I talk of this, so I am unsure, and was hoping to come here and find out more, and talk with others that may feel the same way.
Anyway, to bring me up to the present, I decided to go back to university, and took a year of German, which I loved. I was planning on minoring in it, but because I am now double-majoring, and need a lot of classes for one particular major (molecular-cellular biology), I feel I need to focus my time on getting those classes taken care of. (I am an older student and would like to be finished as soon as possible.) However, my plan is to try and learn more German in my spare time (unfortunately, I generally have very little of that!) However, I love the language, so if anyone has any links to great German movies or language sites, I'd be thrilled to see them, since I am only taking one summer class this summer and have a bit of free time this month.
Anyway, I won't turn this into a saga, and apologize if it is the longest intro ever posted! I look forward to hearing what many have to say on all sorts of subjects, and I hope that I won't be judged without logic concerning my viewpoints here, like I am in other circles. I really disagree with judging someone's thoughts based on some sort of misguided need for a politically-correct persona that people try to maintain, and I am hopeful that I won't find any of that here! However, I welcome judgement if it is based on rational thought! Thanks for reading!
