How can you make a pumpkin pie out of squash? If you use squash, than it is not a pumpkin pie, but a squash pie.

But an interesting fact: Most of the "pumpkin" that is sold in cans isn't actually pumpkin, but some kind of squash very similar in taste and colour to pumpkin. I believe I read this somewhere... don't know if it's actually true or not.

Pumpkins are just a variety of squash, so are gourds. Confusion like this why Horticulturalist, Botanist and other Scientist use a binominal nomenclature classification system for plants and animals.

Jet Star does good if planted late and I have seen them in hanging baskets. I would still start the seeds indoors though in May and then move them outside.

Since it came up earlier, anyone else still having problems with tomatoes? Last year we had a decent harvest despite an infestation of those green tomato worms (moths). This year the cherry tomatoes are blooming but it looks like something is just eating the buds off whole or they are turning black and falling off. Any opinions?

Thanks! Hanging tomatoes don't need staking and weeding.

And also the dogs won't get to them as well.

I have the dog to keep the bunnies and deers out of the yard, but she has been going after my tomatoes, she is defeating her own purpose

I have a small veggie garden, chicken and bunnies at my house. Together with a group of other separatists we have farm as a bugout location. There we have animals and crops enough to feed a village as well as an emergency storage to keep us going for a couple of years in an emergency.

    At my house I grow:

    Potatoes (4 sets of tires)
    Onions
    Salad (Various types)
Herbs (Various types for spicing food)
    Tomatoes
    Squash
    Cucumber
    Paprika
    Chilli
    Fava beans
    Broad beans
    Sugar peas
    Turnips (Lots of it)
    Reddish
    Carrots

Thats all I remember right now..

I believe cherry tomatoes manage alright in the Norwegian summer climate. Possibly others as well, but I've mostly seen cherry tomatoes being grown outside.

Cool, I'll order some next season. Important not to get overwhelmed when you're starting out, so gonna plan what I'm gonna get.
