NATO Generals Consider "New Generation" of Awards

    NATO Generals' Medal Madness?
Wednesday, May 05, 2010 – by Staff Report

Afghanistan — NATO commanders are weighing a new way to reduce civilian casualties in Afghanistan: recognizing soldiers for "courageous restraint" if they avoid using force that could endanger innocent lives. The concept comes as the coalition continues to struggle with the problem of civilian casualties despite repeated warnings from the top NATO commander, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, that the war effort hinges on the ability to protect the population and win support away from the Taliban. Those who back the idea hope it will provide soldiers with another incentive to think twice before calling in an airstrike or firing at an approaching vehicle if civilians could be at risk. Most military awards in the past have been given for things like soldiers taking out a machine gun nest or saving their buddies in a firefight, said Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Hall, the senior NATO enlisted man in Afghanistan. "We are now considering how we look at awards differently," he said. British Maj. Gen. Nick Carter, the NATO commander of troops in southern Afghanistan, proposed the idea of awarding soldiers for "courageous restraint" during a visit by Hall to Kandahar Airfield in mid April. McChrystal is now reviewing the proposal to determine how it could be implemented, Hall said. – AP

Have our Glorious Leaders lost their f*****g minds! Yes! Why not just declare Victory and get our soldiers out of those stinking pest holes. And let the Afghanis or Iraqis or whoever go back to killing each other like they were doing before.

Its Vietnam all over again. 10 years, 50,000 dead american soldiers, 300,000 maimed and wounded soldiers and what did our stupid, worthless, piece of s**t leaders say, " Oh, sorry, made a mistake." And now the commie vietnamese have most favored nation trading status. Why anyone is willing to fight for our worthless government SOBs is beyond me. The soldiers in the Middle East need to do what the soldiers did in Vietnam. When the grunts finally realized what a cluster f*** it was, and that they were the ones getting the screwing, they just started shooting their officers and the war came to a screeching halt.

I think the only proper way for a true Republic to fight a war is with conscripted officers and levies (ie the DRAFT and calling up the militias), supplemented by a professional Navy and a very small professional Army (one eighth the number of the militia as advisors, trainers and commanders of the militia).

Conscription tends to stop b.s. conflicts in their tracks. It stops wars that are not in defense of homeland and family. It requires that wars be declared legally.

Wars fought with mercs never end, because they are too profitable.
