Carlsberg Workers Strike Over Beer Limits

Carlsberg workers in Copenhagen have gone on strike against new rules that restrict the amount of free beer they can consume during their working day.

Regulations brought in at the start of the month stipulate that workers are no longer allowed beer throughout the day, and can now only drink at lunchtime.

Workers claim they were not consulted on the changes, which is why more than 250 have decided to strike in protest.

Carlsberg said it would not be reversing the new policy.

"Carlsberg has pulled something over the heads of the workers. They won't have a dialogue with us," said Michael Christiansen, representing the striking employees.

"We have never had a problem with accidents or anything with alcohol involved."

The strike has affected beer deliveries into the Danish capital as delivery drivers have gone on strike in sympathy with their co-workers.

    The strike began on Wednesday.

To be honest I don't think this is a way to save money. Drinking three beers a day 5 times a week for 45 weeks a year for 10 years equals 6750 beers just for lunch. This can impossibly be healthy.

'Windows broke and shards of glass flew over us': Six killed after cargo debris hits train on Danish bridge

SIX PEOPLE WERE killed and 16 injured today after debris believed to be from a cargo train smashed into a passenger train in high winds on a bridge connecting two islands in Denmark.

Accident investigator Bo Haaning told reporters that part of the cargo train appeared to have been whipped off in strong winds, hitting a passenger train that was travelling in the opposite direction and causing it to brake suddenly.

Images from the scene showed the cargo train still standing on the tracks, the tarpaulin covers of its carriages torn open in places to reveal jumbled cases of beer, while the metal tracks appeared mangled in places.

An unidentified object can also be seen lying across the front of the passenger train on another track. Rail operator DSB said six people died in the accident, which occurred around 7.30am (6.30am GMT) on the Great Belt Bridge connecting the islands of Zealand, where Copenhagen is located, and Funen. There were 131 passengers and three crew on board. Police said none of the 16 hurt had life-threatening injuries.

    ‘Loud crash’

Passenger Heidi Langberg Zumbusch had just boarded the train and taken her seat when the accident happened. “There was a loud crash and the windows started smashing onto our heads. We flew down onto the floor, and then the train stopped,” she told Danish public broadcaster DR. “We were lucky. The people in the carriage in front of us were not so lucky,” she said, adding that her co-passengers told her they saw the side of that carriage had been ripped off.

Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen sent condolences to the families of the victims. “Regular Danes on their way to work or on their way home after the holidays have had their lives torn apart. It’s deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the victims and their families,” he said.

A Funen police spokesman told reporters he could not provide details of the accident, but added: “We know that an object hit the train.”

Another passenger, 19-year-old Simon Voldsgaard Tondering, told daily Politiken that the train suddenly began to shake violently. “I looked out the window and there were sparks flying up the side of the train. And then all the windows broke and shards of glass flew over us and panels broke loose. And then everything went black,” he said.

Heavy winds were reported across Scandinavia overnight yesterday and today, causing power outages, bridge closures and ferry cancellations.

The Great Belt link consists of a road suspension bridge and a railway tunnel between Zealand and the small island of Sprogo, with a bridge for both road and rail traffic between Sprogo and Funen.

The bridge was closed for several hours due to the accident, but car traffic later resumed while rail traffic remained shut in both directions.

Carlsberg don’t make trains, but if they did . . .

LillyCaterina barely survived one such tragedy that cost the lives of three of her family members.

'Probably not the best beer in the world...' - Carlsberg changes its recipe after harsh reaction from drinkers

    Carlsberg
has reacted to consumer distaste for its lager by admitting that it was "probably not" the best in the world.

The Danish brewer has launched a new recipe following increasingly harsh reaction from drinkers to its original slogan - "Probably the best lager in the world" - which accompanied falling sales.

A new advertising campaign declares: "Probably not the best beer in the world. So we've changed it."

The brewer has shared disparaging comments about the old beer as part of the new campaign, including one that compared it to "drinking the bathwater your nan died in".

After the change to the ingredients and brewing method, the lager has been rebranded as Carlsberg Danish Pilsner.

It has the same alcohol content of 3.8% but a "crisper, fuller flavour".

Carlsberg UK's vice president of marketing, Liam Newton, said: "Drinkers' interest in mainstream lager has waned because, though the world has moved on, the mainstream category hasn't. "At Carlsberg UK, we lost our way. We focused on brewing quantity, not quality; we became one of the cheapest, not the best."

What makes a great beer? Good Water and Brewing Method.
    Choose a type: Pilsner
    Pick a brand: Tuborg.
For sure Danish Beer in Danmark is very different to the local franchise versions.

Carlsberg workers in Copenhagen have gone on strike against new rules that restrict the amount of free beer they can consume during their working day.
And did the Carlsberg employees then drive home from work after drinking all this beer?

I realise the OP is 9 years old but drink driving laws have been strict for some time now and in the UK they'd have all lost their driving licences within a month!

Carlsberg is located in "central" Copenhagen , and until the 1990s and
2000s car traffic had not been that "populist" in Copenhagen and
Denmark in general , but "Jeg elsker mi[gnt] cycle" .

Public transport should be well develloped in Copenhagen ,
not sure , if the new Subway would have a station nearby .

But it might be just a "straw fire" since they likely do not
brew there much anymore , and the employees likely get
    money instead of nutrients .
