What is in a Name? Should Germanics Have Germanic Names?

Germanics or people who consider themselves Germanic must have Germanic names. Names are very important and tell a lot of who you actually are - consider here the great importance our forefathers placed on names. It was only with the coming of despicable Christianity that all of this changed.

This is also illustrated in the thread I just read on the Boer-descendants in Argentine. You have to a certain degree lost your essence an is on the way to being assimilated if don't use your own names any more.

I do not have a Germanic forename, but certainly not a Christian forename, I'm named for a 4th century Roman Emperor who attempted to re-outlaw Christianity and bring back pre-Christian belief again. - I used to be unhappy with that name choice, however I have since come to opine that it would be disrespectful to my parents if I changed my name to something more applicable for a Germanic (though arguably, being an Odinist clearly interested in spiritual reclamation, being named after an apostate emperor perhaps isn't too off. )

As regards the successive generations, there may be two distinct motivations: Either a meaningful Germanic forename, or potentially a family name. Since I'm lucky to have a large proportion of Germanic forenames in my family tree the distinction becomes pretty much a moot point for me, but I certainly wouldn't hold it against anyone if they named their child Peter, John, George, Joseph or Andrew for their great-grandfather or so.

My full name is very English, which I'm quite proud of. If I have a son, I want him to be called Edward.

Well, I was accidently named after Charles "The Hammer" Martel.

Although I am fairly certain my parents weren't thinking of that when they

chose my name.

Charles Martel fought against the muslims in Poitiers a long time ago (and protected Europe in the same time !)... and Charles still be a germanic name, frenchified, ok.

Mine is William, I'm quite proud of it, there is nothing christian-influenced in it, it's just an anglo-norman form.
If I had a child I guess I would name it with a germanic name, depending of my wife's origins.

One of my family names is Heidenreich, and after looking at the meaning and origins, most references have the meaning as Ruler over Heathens. Some sources say the name came into being during the Crusades and others have it going back further in time. Anyone have any thoughts?

My first name is Eric.

My middle name is Hale (my mother's maiden name).

I was named by my father after both of my grandfathers.

So I have a Norse first name and an Anglo-Saxon middle. I think that it is important to try to use Germanic names, especially family names. Keep them alive. I am going to try to use my maternal grandfather's first name, Hubert, down the line...

Men need to stop letting women name their sons. Period. End of discussion. All these sissy names you see in baby registers would be wiped out within weeks.

In the netherlands, more and more people give their children from ''germanic'' race, realy simple names!

I agree, but it is even worse in English-speaking countries. Some of the absurd non-Germanic names thrust upon unwitting children of Germanic racial stock have to be heard to be believed. West Germanic and North Germanic languages have more than enough good traditional names to give boys and girls and yet the names from these languages are so often ignored.

Here in the States black people who have moved into White neighborhoods are now giving their children White names, which are almost exclusively English in origin:
