I stumbled onto skadi following a link on differences between greek and roman feet. Sound odd? Well, perhaps I AM odd, but I'm curious about so many things.
Consider: As the percentage of the local population which come from central america increases, it becomes more and more difficult to find narrow shoes in local stores. Coincidence? Could it be that people from different places have different shape feet?
Turns out they do! Not just differences in width, but in proportional length of toes (long toes vs. short, stubby toes), length of toes in comparison to one another (toes of fairly equal length vs. those that form a steep angle from the first to the fifth), width of heel in proportion to width of ball of foot . . .
Who knew feet were so complicated? Makes the standard Brannock foot measuring device in your local shoe store seem rather inadequate, eh?
Just one of my current research tangents. I'm always wandering the internet chasing some puzzle or other. But we grandmas can't knit ALL the time!![]()
