It would be interesting to see what his IQ is. Some sites say it is 190 however AFAIK that is not based on a classic IQ test but on an approach based on a correlation formula between one's
Elo rating and IQ. While one does not need to be highly intelligent in order to play chess, a high IQ could prove helpful with chess or any game for that matter. Some of the world's best chess players were reported to be above average when it comes to intelligence. Bobby Fischer supposedly had an IQ of 180, Garry Kasparov had an IQ of 185-190 (though some argue that it is as low as 135), Judit Polgar 170, etc. Not to mention there are different types of intelligence: logic, linguistic, visual-spatial, musical, interpersonal, etc. Carlsen probably has a high visual-spatial intelligence, when it comes to social interaction though he seems to be somewhat autistic.
