    Saying No to Breast Implants

Although I doubt anyone here is keen on breast implants, here is a worrying article about their dangers. If you know anyone who is considering getting any, it would be good ammunition to throw against them:

Sweden bans fake boobs over explosion risk

Sweden's Medical Products Agency (Läkemedelsverket) has banned three brands of silicon breast implants due to the risk of bursting.

The agency confirmed on Thursday that it has followed the lead of the French authorities to ban the products manufactured by Poly Implant Prothese (PIP).

Since 2001 it is estimated that the breasts of around 35,000 to 45,000 European women have been augmented with the faulty implants. There are no firm figures for how many Swedish women may be affected, while in France around 1,000 women are set to be offered alternatives.

"This is the type of information that we are trying to find out. We hope to be able to release information as soon as possible," said Staffan Strömberg at the agency.

But despite the agency ban on the product, Stromberg argued that he does not see any reason for Swedish women equipped with the implants to be overly concerned.

The PIP implants were outlawed by the French drug administration after a slew of reports that they had a tendency to burst due to an erroneous mixture of silicon.

The products will now be recalled from the Swedish market, and clinics in the country will be forbidden from using them.

Surgeon Ulf Samuelsson at Stockholm's Akademi clinic confirmed that his practice had never employed the faulty implants.

"It is a cut price product which does not fulfil our quality standards," he said.

Maybe this will make the naturally beautiful women out there think again before getting implants. I'm a bit strange perhaps in my preference in natural women, but the grotesquely disproportionate just do nothing for me.

It would be nice to see the women, particularly those of my folk (and this is probably bias speaking), see the natural beauty and strength they were born with and not feel the need to change or damage that natural work of art. But then at the same time maybe if the men who are in their lives would adore them and not these mongrel plastic bimbo's scrawled across the media, they [the natural women] wouldn't feel the need to alter themselves in the first place. But that is just my humble opinion.

    No more breast implants

It should have been banned. It is not good. And small tits are just as good as big, even better. Do not use it. My mother was dumb enough to get this when she was younger, she regrets it alot... Dangerous shit invented by greedy doctors and evil people.

I'm not against cosmetic surgeries in general, but only if there is a real reason for it, which means a significant physical deficit and the person has a problem with it.

So only if there are no natural breasts of size at all or strongly disproportionate ones I would understand people doing such drastical measures, otherwise I dont.

Every small breast is more beautiful than an artificially enlarged one, even more so if the enlargement doesnt fit the body and skin, makes the breast an artificial "something".

There is enough risk, if specific implants are even more dangerous
has banned three brands of silicon breast implants due to the risk of bursting.
    A ban should follow automatically...

In any case, every surgery should be carefully thought about and as a rule, if there is no really significant deficit, plastic-cosmetic surgeries are not just decadent but also not too helpful, even less so on the long run, for looking better and healthier - even more so if you dont have the money to pay the best doctors around and even those make sometimes "Frankenstein's jobs"...

However, as I said, I'm not absolutely against it, because if it helps someone to have a better life without a physical deficit (s)he hates about her-/himself, thats just alright in a certain limits. I saw very drastic cases of f.e. skin atony f.e. after pregnancy even in very young women which just ruined the whole appearance. Thats to me a genetic defect and we will be able to fix that in the future, but for those which have to live with it now, I understand if they want to fix that now - in the limits of our current methods.

What I really hate is if natural beauty being destroyed by artificial means, which is rarely the case in my country, but seems to be fairly common in various other countries, especially the USA, some other parts of America and strongly Capitalist-individualist countries in general.

Here mostly those with real problems do a surgery and thats ok, its their decision and should be done as save as possible and reasonable as possible. F.e. if a woman wants huge implants which destroy her health and body for sure, I wouldnt allow it and consider her somewhat insane, like others which mutilate their body or have diseases which affect their body and self awareness (like anorexia). A doctor doing just what those sick people want, some even try to transform themselves into comic figures or animal-like things, support their disease and act like drug dealers in extreme cases, which satisfy a sick addiction and aberration.

I'm totally against breast implants, natural breasts are always preferable and surgery is too dangerous; but I still agree with Agrippa, if the problem is really serious surgery may be acceptable.

By the way, there is a new technique now called "rhinomodelation", which is not like rhinoplasty, actually it's not considered a surgery at all. I was impressed when I read in a site that White people use it a lot since their nose is always somehow near the "perfect" one in modern society, while other races often use rhinoplasty because the change is more radical. It even said that they did not recommend it for non-Whites because "the new Caucasian nose does not feet the rest of the face".
Since it is proven that the brain focuses on the nose first of all when seeing a face, it is quite an important thing, and some people's confidence may be affected by this so I think rhinomodelation is ok.

    plasic surgery

My mother is a breast cancer survivor and I've seen her cry many times due to the damage that has been done to her breasts through biopsies and surgeries. I would have no problem with her having breast reconstruction surgery if she chose to do so, especially if it made her feel better about herself.

People tend to forget that plastic surgery was originally a BRITISH invention from WWI, and was used to help soldiers who had been disfigured from war. It's very easy to believe the media image of cosmetic surgery = a capitalistic society, but there are other uses.

I thought that silicon implants had been banned in most countries and I was also under the impression that silicone was predominately no longer used at this point in time? There is no reason to be using those since they've been associated with so many health risks over the last two decades. Most of the women I know who have them have saline which is a safer alternative with relatively little risk.

My Mom got them. I had never felt like "white trash" in my whole long life before that day .

I don't think they should be banned or anything, but getting them for the sake of vanity shows poor self-image. Just my personal opinion.

Man, they don't make breast implants like they used to!

I saw an autopsy in school. Some good old boy shot his wife in the chest

with a rifle. The implant was driven right through the rib cage by the bullet

and remained intact. Unfortunately, the lady didn't. Ugh!

That's another reason I like to sail around in a boat in the middle of

    the ocean by myself!

    ArcticDoctor,

Thanks for that info. What's the big difference (pun intended) between then and now? Isn't saline relatively safe at this point in time? Is the silicone shell not made as well anymore?

IvyLeaguer: Let me do a little research and I will give you a more

definitive answer. But for your information, quite a number of young

women who have breast surgery are actually having congenital defects

repaired, but obviously they aren't going to report that to casual

acquaintances. Also, more women have breast reduction surgery than

    have breast augmentation surgery.

A reputable plastic surgeon will generally send his or her patients to

a psychiatrist or psychologist before doing more than just routine

    cosmetic surgery.

Obviously the cult of self-mutilation , including extreme branding,

piercing, and michael jackson-esque surgery, has gotten completely

out of control, but you folks need to go easy on these ladies who are

having garden variety plastic surgery as you might not have the

    complete story.
