    Art-Symbols We Wear and Why

Hi everybody!! For a first post thought I'd try to start an interesting discussion about what things mean to us, and this seemed the best forum for this particular topic. This was actually brought about because I'm having a series of pendants custom cast in silver. These can typically be found on the internet under the name "Spear of Odin Pendant".

I've caught a lot of Hel from some very 'authoritative' people over the symbol actually being Irminsul, not a spear. The description provided by the original company quickly clarifies this, as it is a version of Irminsul with the Gar rune to represent a spear.

The layers of symbolism added by the seemingly simple addition of the Gar rune intrigue me. For example, the listing likens Gungnir to a pillar, much as Irminsul is. Also, if my history isn't grossly misrepresented, spear shafts were commonly made of ash wood, which would further connect the two. I shouldn't even have to mention the role of the Ash Tree when Odin scoops up the runes.

Finally, combining two symbols into one is practical because it cuts down on how much jewelry you feel compelled to wear

So the question still remains: What symbols of your faith/heritage/whatyouwill do you wear (not necessarily on a regular basis), what do they mean to you and why? Any thoughts about the connections I've made above?

I've worn a silver Hammer, every day, since 1990. I have several of various styles and sizes. I've also on occasion also worn a small silver Valknut or "knot of the Slain" a symbol of Odin, and on occasion, a small, silver Sun wheel.

My DSW also wears a smaller silver Hammer. She also on occasion wears a silver traditional Valkyrie, styled after historical representations.

When we dress in "garb", which is a rare occasion, we both have braided silver neck Torcs, as well as arm Torcs that we wear.
And my DSW has a variety of large decorated turtle brooches that she wears with her apron dresses. She also has several nice strings of Amber, of beads and chunks.

You can invest some sums of dollars in nice, decorative accouterments, over the years, if you have them.

The Real "BUMMER" Is That Many Asatru/odinist/Viking And Old Norse Symbols Are Looked Badly Upon Due To The Nazi's Use Of Them, And A Misguided Connection With White Supremacy... If One Would Be Inclined To Truly Research History, They Would Learn That Any Real Connections To These Groups Simply Don’t Exist.
It Saddens Me That A Truly Great And Historical Culture Is Overlooked And Criticized As A Result…

I wear a wooden bind rune necklace that my girlfriend have to me for my 18th birthday. It's a bind rune that's supposed to represent love. I've been considering getting either a silver sun wheel or a mjölnir necklace (preferably wooden)

I use wear a silver Holy Cross of the Hispotaller Knights or the silver Holy Cross of Jesus Christs. These show my faith in God, well side by side I always wear these hidden. These protect me all places of the World in all cases.

I wear a Mjolnir I made from a meteorite around my neck.

Then I have the great serpent tattooed around my wrist since 1992 also on the same arm I have a one of the stags that surround the Yggdrasil. This in turn is surrounded by oak leaves. On the opposite side of the same arm as the stag I have the unnamed eagle surrounded by knot work. My other tattoos are either nature or military inspired and I won't discuss those.

I do not like to wear gold or silver jewelry, I prefer iron with a rough hammered texture. In winter I use peninsular broaches to keep my scarf around my neck. These are usually animal figures that I smith myself.
Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.

I wore a pewter gryphon amulet until it wore to the point of breaking. I didn't want to lose it, so I stored it in a jewlry box.
