Post Haiti 'Needs $11.5bn' to Rebuild

Hmm..i wonder where it will come from?? No doubt our governments will be desperate to send millions, while they quite happily cut funding to many of our own folk. Not to forget all the money they're throwing at Iraq and Aghanistan to help 'rebuild' those countries. Here, all we hear about are cutbacks due to local authorities' lack of money, and it's looking like a third world country here with all the potholes in the roads, litter and vandalism.
Even if they do send all that money to Haiti, i imagine it'll pretty much be like many other similar countrieswhere the money ends up in someone's pocket, or being used to buy weapons or squandered in some way...

Haiti will need $11.5bn (£7.5bn) to rebuild after the devastating earthquake in January, the country's government estimates.

The amount is a rough estimate of money required for a complete overhaul of the impoverished country, officials say.

The plan, co-authored by international aid agencies, will be put to donors at a conference on Haiti on 31 March.

More than 220,000 people were killed in the quake, which is thought to have caused around $8bn of damage.

"This is a process. This is not a final document," Haiti's Tourism Minister Patrick Delatour was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.

Estimates for the total reconstruction could be as high as $14bn, he added.

    'Unprecedented'

The reconstruction plan, known as the Preliminary Damage and Needs Assessment (PDNA), will be discussed at a major conference on Haiti in New York at the end of this month.

The document put the total cost of earthquake damage at $7.9bn - 120% of Haiti's GDP.

More than 70% of those losses were sustained by the private sector. But damage was widespread, affecting schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, buildings, ports and airports.

"The earthquake has created an unprecedented situation, amplified by the fact that it struck the country's most populous region and its economic and administrative centre," the assessment said.

The plan emphasises that the short-term priority is to prepare those left homeless by the quake for April's heavy rains and for the June hurricane season.

Nearly 220,000 quake survivors are living in temporary camps in the capital city of Port-au-Prince, where there is a high risk of flooding and landslides.

9,000,000 times 25 cents is not $11.5 billion. I disagree with the math.

The idiocy which spawns from the Western world is unbelievable. Our own governments are being duped by negroids with guns, the only form of government Haiti has ever had since they revolted against the good French people who built Haiti into a thriving nation of the Western hemisphere. Watch and see as that $11.5 billion disappears, and the US is even in further debt.

The West is full of idiots nowadays. If any White gives into this, they are a total moron and need to be left out of the gene pool. We are headed for a nihilistic suicidal destruction of our nations if we just keep it up. And it's just not the libs, it's also the right-wingers giving in.

Right-wingers have always been known to betray their own race out of greed. Just go read a history book and you'll know that the rightist senators and governors of the agricultural south and south-west states allowed Mexicans to cross over the border for temporary work, of which many stayed.

We're being sold out by our own government.

The U.S.A. is always helping the less fortunate; the devastated Haiti being the latest to receive the U.S.A. tremendous aid. However, I really feel charity begins at home, and the U.S.A. really needs to start helping the masses of many unfortunate and needy people here.

    No problem here.

Let Haiti borrow money from the The World Bank. They can create the money out of thin air. And let the people who live there pay the bank back with a low intrest rate.

    Problem solved.

It would be worth it to give them the money if they would agree not to allow anymore foreign adoptions of Haitian children.
