    Although the word "Commando" was wrongly used to describe all Boer soldiers, a commando was a unit formed from a particular district. None of the units was organized in regular companies, battalions or squadrons. The Boer commandos were individualists who were difficult to control, resented formal discipline or orders, and earned a British jibe that"every Boer was his own general".

    This is my personal favorite. I understand they still mint them (there hasn't been an authorized US distributor since 1986). I'm surprised they haven't replaced Kruger's image with that of Mandela.

    The Krugerrand was the world's first and still is the most widely used gold bullion coin. The design is nice indeed. Slightly off-topic, but the Isle of Man's platinum Noble is quite nice as well:
