'Buy Farmland and Gold,' Advises Dr Doom

Leo Lewis – Times Online February 22, 2010

The world’s most powerful investors have been advised to buy farmland, stock up on gold and prepare for a “dirty war” by Marc Faber, the notoriously bearish market pundit, who predicted the 1987 stock market crash.

The bleak warning of social and financial meltdown, delivered today in Tokyo at a gathering of 700 pension and sovereign wealth fund managers

I myself own stock in mostly junior gold mines. So that part is already covered. Now farmland, that would be far beyond my preset budget to buy.

It would be a wise thing to do for anyone who can afford it, though.

Wouldn't it be better to have actual gold in your possession than stock in gold mines? I fear your stock will be worth nothing when all hell breaks loose.

I try to buy gold from time to time but I mainly focus on paying off my land.
My goal is to start working the land and plant crops that can sustain my family.I would advise anyone who can purchase land to do so and learn to be self sufficient.Invest in some Holstein cattle. My family has always had Holsteins and they produce excellent milk and dairy products.

I would also debate the use of Gold when "it" hits the fan the only good practical use i can see for gold is making Projectiles...soft and dense

But that is only true in all comes crashing down really hard scenario. That was not even seen during the Great Depression. And then you could even argue that physical gold might not be worth much either. Since you can not eat it, nor can it be used to defend yourself with.

So even your point stands and falls with the political situation remains relatively stable, probably even more so. Since there is already, in America at least, a prediction for government confiscation of gold. So I advice you if you buy gold and to have enough to make a significant difference do not store in somewhere in EU, or America. Which of course makes of it little value in your scenario.

That said I also buy small amounts of silver. But that is more that with my present income levels, buying good amounts of gold is a bit out of my reach at the moment.
