How Do You Greet Your Family Members?

The question is simple is yours the type of family that hugs and kisses or do you just nod or shake hands. If neither please explain.

Personally my family just nods at one another without much emotion and we never say " I love You " even when one is sick or going away for a long journey.
Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.

I think it varies from member to member, personal disagreements and grudges plague most families. I dislike members of my family but I will be polite until they give me a reason not to be and I will usually excuse myself and simply leave the gathering. ON TOPIC: The greeting is usually a handshake between men & a hug to the women.

In my closer family, weg hug and also say that we love each other.
I think it is very important to express and show your love and appreciation to your family members.

The only family I have in America is my mother. When I still lived with her we would nod, saying nothing,or jokingly give the fascist salute to one another when one of us left to go out.

Universal hugs on my mother's side, hugs with female relatives on my dad's side but handshakes between men.

Generally just handshakes. The women hug and peck each other, for us men it's handshakes, between each other we're amicable, but not gay. To greet women it differs. If you're seated you get up, otherwise you come to the door to greet them, some will peck left-and-right as well, others will just handshake.

It's a little different with my siblings, whom I pick up to greet when that is opportunous, at ages 11, 10 and 1 it's not that hard to pick them up yet. The 10-year-old brother (since he lives with my mother, I see him more often than the other brother or my sister), if he comes up to visit, tends to get picked up and turned upside down and held above the swimming pool.

It's evil, I know, but my uncle always did that with me, and in hindsight, I loved it, even though I was scared to death that he was going to drop me into the water each time anew.

-Auch ich verspüre Demut / Vor dem alten Geiste der Ahnen / Wird es mir vergönnt sein / Gen Walhalla aufzufahren?-

My family is very traditional. So it is pretty much hugs with my female family members and hand shakes with my male family members.

Handshakes for the men, a word of greeting for the women, but no hugs unless they are very close family I have not seen for a long time.

    South Africa

We kiss and hug, men also (family members only, of course), sometimes we hold each other depending on the circumstances at the time.
