The Future of Canada: Where Do You See Us Heading?

My question to Canadians especially, but everyone is welcome to answer.

I read our news, look at the sorry state of Parliment, the complete lack of knowledge of Canadian history and heritage many Canadians, and the near apatheticity (a word?) of much of our population and I feel pessimistic about Canada's future.

While the rest of the world is stepping into the 21st century (India becoming technologically modern, China becoming damn near a superpower), Canada still seems stuck, unable to move forward. Many newer 'Canadians' seem still to think of themselves as citizens of their country of origin, or that of their ancestors. Look at all the Asians and Indians who come to Canada, work here for years, then pump the money back to China, India, etc, and end up not havng contributed much to our economy. I speak as a German born who moved to Canada at five years of age. I grew up here and consider myself Canadian (although German heritage is important to me).

Do you see a brighter future? Will Canada figure out that they are being left behind?

There is only one direction that things can go the way that our country currently dysfunctions: down. We have a misguided immigration policy, a university system infested by socialists and communists, corrupt and self-serving politicians, a failing health care system, a failed public school system, and a branch plant economy. This is not a recipe for success by any stretch of the rational imagination.

And, no, "apatheticity" is not a word.

I still wouldn't like to live in a country like India or China. Yes, we aren't in the best situation right now. Multiculturalism has had its say, and not a pleasant one. But hopefully in future people will become more and more displeased with what is going on. I don't believe in the current system, so I'm not hopeful for any improvements. I'd like to see a total change.

I think Canada should place more of an emphasis on its British/English heritage and avoid to become the melting pot that the US has become, but unfortunately we are already getting there because of these "new Canadians" (I dislike this term). Even a white melting pot is undesirable in my book, let alone adding all colours of the rainbow.
