I'm an American living in north Idaho. I've recently become interested in my roots beyond America, and have started to do research. My great grandfather emigrated to Ohio around 1890. He was German and spoke German, yet he came here from Russia.
My research on Germans coming from Russia in that time frame leads me to suspect Volga German.
I look forward to interacting with everyone.

Welcome here, chadvonlind. The Germans in Russia are collectively known as Russia Germans. The Volga Germans are the most famous and known of them. We've some threads about them here. I hope you enjoy the stay and find the forum useful for your interests.
