I was just courious if anyone here has relatives (living or dead) from the former Soviet countries. I know I might have some from the "Lietuvos Tarybų Socialistinė Respublika" (Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic) which was 1940-1990. Not that I am a Communist, as a matter a fact on my mothers side we had relatives in the German Army and SS. Anyone else with family from former Soviet countries?

I have yet to see my family tree and pictures, though I will get it when my grandmother passes away and I will know for sure.
I don't have any relatives but America is full of recent immigrants from the former soviet union. We have whole villages of them here.
Yes rainman, we do. I went to school with a few ethnic Russians and a Ukranian kid. He was very nice and nationalist. I'll never forget when he said "Look Andrew! The Katyusha truck. The Ukraine's greatest weapon!" My Lithuanian side immigrated to New York, became rich in Brooklyn, then the place became over-run by the Italians and blacks so they came here to white New Hampshire.
I had worked with a Russian man a few years ago. He grew up in Russia, during the Cold War, in the 70's & 80's. His wife was an American. I also went to college with a Ukrainian woman. Before she immigrated to the States, she was a nurse. She would often speak about how backward the Soviet hospitals were, & how even though they had technology, up to Western standards, they would never utilize it any.
Serving their new masters, I assume? I know that in the USSR if one expected any kind of decent education, decent housing or decent career he had to join the CP.
I mean convinced communists. I just wanted to present evidence that serving in German forces during WW2 does in no way prove any ideological consciousness.

Closest I have is ancestors (well I suppose "relatives" is more accurate, it's only two generations ago) who were in the IRA and Sinn Féin, which has dabbled in Marxism during its existence. I'm still involved with Sinn Féin, though their social policies really do take a back-seat to the 26+6=1 platform.
