It varies with the type of publication. In general I am very fond of fonts like Adobe Garamond, Kepler, Dante and Sabon. My favourite sans serifs would probably be Futura and Optima. All very nice and clean, pleasing to the eye. Which I favour depends on the sort of publication.

And yes, I have worked a little with publishing.

I like the "Elder Futhark" fonts, but they are kinda plane, I am looking for something a little more exciting

I used to be quite fond of Garamond when I was younger, but I'm going to have to be boring and say: All this typing with Times New Roman has made it seem all the more aesthetic to me.

I'm not a great fan of Sans-Serif fonts, though there I tend to reasonably like Tahoma and Verdana, which is I believe what we use here as a forum standard. Again a matter of getting accustomed to it. I'm not one for fancy fonts, I tend to prefer the standard; I want people to look at what I'm writing, not at the typeset.

On the web I indeed prefer Verdana. It is a font that is especially designed and optimised for the web display with 72dpi only. It is also the only font I know which has a perfect metric (meaning the letter distance and scaleability).
It is based on Tahoma and the mac variant Helvetica, so they are pretty similar to each other.

In printed publications though I prefer serif fonts. They keep the eye better focused, and text is printed with 600dpi, so there are no disturbing display errors, which often happens with Times on the web, specially when set too small which then kills the serifs. Garamond is a nice font for printing too.

My favorite fonts from an aesthetic point of view though are still Blackletter fonts such as Clerestory, Old English Text, Sherwood, CloisterBlack, Proclamate or the more decorative variants like ShadowedBlackWide, Teutonic or Rothenburg.

I also like grunge fonts like Attic (serif), Ruach LET (a handwriting font) or the King & Queen font, also a handwriting grunge font.

But it all depends in which environment one uses these fonts. For my business cards I used to use SandyText or SanVito, when I created extravagant greeting cards I maybe used WindsorSword, whatever I see fit for the environment, cause, goal, purpose of the design, layout, publication whatever.

Hmm, I have round about 20.000 fonts stored on my computer ("only" ~250 permanently installed though), so the answer to what seems fit isnt always easily found
