I must say I haven't looked into this fully. I do know, however, that I'm 100% English up until my great grandparents and this will do for me.

English isn't really considered an ethnicity here anymore; it's just not 'exotic' enough. So if someone's 7/8 English and 1/8 Italian or something he'll call himself Italian-American usually. And a lot of Old Stock English families in the South claim 'American' as their ethnicity now.

Its a real shame that Americans arent recognising their English roots, considering how much America owes to English Americans such as the most of the Founding Fathers and others like them.

Three grandparents were English, one was Welsh. One of the English ones had Irish blood some time back, though, I'm fairly sure.

So, yes, pretty darn English, or British at the very least.

In blood I'm but half English. My mother is English and her parents were full-on English. Her cousins, my cousins, etc are all English though I'm sure I have cousins on the other side. I speak the language fluently and I attended St. George's Grammar School. Granted I was born and raised in South Africa but I identify mostly with the English culture. I love it and it feels comfortable.

My parents are one English one Scottish. My Grandparents are English, Scottish and Welsh. Apparently I have some Irish ancestry further back. My family name is a Scottish variant of an English name dating back over one thousand years. I've spent most of my life in England. England is my home, I feel English, though by some definitions I'm technically Scottish. I support England when it comes to home internationals. I've wondered what I'd do if (when?) Scotland gains independence and I'd have to renew my passport, assuming of course I would be given a choice. Probably English.

Unlike most in this thread, I have nothing but English relatives as far back as can be traced.

    I am a real Englishman.

    This is quite complicated,

    1/8 German
    4/8 Irish
    2/English
    1/Welsh

I think I am quite representative of the people around Merseyside; as there was quite a lot of German people here working in Liverpool back in the 19th and early twentieth century.

Born and raised in England, both parents too. Further back than that it gets foggy. There's Irish and Scottish, and hints of other places in Europe, but I don't have the details to search it at this point.

I've traced most lines of my family tree to the 1700s so far and there's nothing but English.
