    Burqa Barbie: Veiled Oppression

In the event you missed it: just in time for this year’s Judeo-Christian holiday season and Mattel’s 50th anniversary is Barbie dressed in traditional Islamic garb. In other words, it’s a “Burqa Barbie” that was “unveiled” last Friday at the Salone dei Cinquecento in Florence, Italy, as reported in the UK’s Daily Mail. The “Burqa Barbie” is one rendition of about 500 Barbie dolls that are part of an auction benefitting Save the Children Charity…

I might get one, for laughs, and to constantly point out to people just how far things have progressed already. Though I'm personally still waiting for the first Muslim-friendly issue of Playboy magazine, veil instead of burqa then, I mean that's the closest it's allowed to get, isn't it? ... touch wood!

It's curious - Jewish toy company sells Muslim Barbie dolls to Europeans. I certainly don't spot any connection to otherwise worldly ongoings whatsoever. Must be pure coincidence...

-Auch ich verspüre Demut / Vor dem alten Geiste der Ahnen / Wird es mir vergönnt sein / Gen Walhalla aufzufahren?-

Wasn´t Barbie white, blonde and blue eyed when I had one for my doll house 20 years ago? Oh my oh my, how fast times are changing to the worse nowadays.

The black "Barbie" on the picture looks like a shameless outlook to the future if nothing happens.

Yes, it was. But it was already some years ago that the mono-version of Barbie was labeled racist. Since then there are different hair colors and also brownish ones (still with the european body features though).

Well, tough luck. Most people will not realise just how wrong that development is and think that there's everything okay with a black and/or Burqa Barbies
They dont even realise that muslim children arent allowed to play with Barbies.

Interesting note: The Jewish Ruth Handler created Barbie.

I know, some people here ask me why i say it, well, i had a feeling that the maker or the current bos of Barbie is Jewish, and again i am right.

Second, Barbie is a rip of of the German Bild Lilli Dol.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild_Lilli_doll

But Lilli also inspired the production of another fashion doll of high quality who would soon outshine her: Barbie, produced by Mattel. Ruth Handler, one of the company's founders, bought some of the Lilli dolls when she was on a trip to Europe. Back home she reworked the design of the doll and re-named her Barbie, who debuted at the New York toy fair on March 9, 1959.

    And

In September 2003 the Middle Eastern country of Saudi Arabia outlawed the sale of Barbie dolls, saying that she did not conform to the ideals of Islam. The Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice stated "Jewish Barbie dolls, with their revealing clothes and shameful postures, accessories and tools are a symbol of decadence to the perverted West. Let us beware of her dangers and be careful." In Middle Eastern countries there is an alternative doll called Fulla which is similar to Barbie but is designed to be more acceptable to an Islamic market. Fulla is not made by the Mattel Corporation, and Barbie is still available in other Middle Eastern countries including Egypt. In Iran, Sara and Dara dolls are available as an alternative to Barbie.

Well mister muslim, you are closer to the Jewish world then we are.

December 2005 Dr. Agnes Nairn at the University of Bath in England published research suggesting that girls often go through a stage where they hate their Barbie dolls and subject them to a range of punishments, including decapitation and placing the doll in a microwave oven. Dr. Nairn said: "It's as though disavowing Barbie is a rite of passage and a rejection of their past."

Haha, I heard of this but had to see it to believe it.
What happens if Barbie goes outside without the tent, does Ken stone her to death then? Hmmm...
