    Yuck! Hershey bars.

    Radioactive chocolate forever and ever!

    RADIOACTIVE CHOCOLATE

    Hershey, PA three miles near
    empty assurance, nothing to fear
    the nuke is down
    poisoned the ground
    hush it quick
    the cows are sick
and there's nothing like the face of a kid
    eating a radioactive chocolate bar
    forever and ever
    radioactive chocolate forever and ever
    Poisonous fish, poisonous rivers
    cancerous kidneys, stomachs and livers
    they don't give a fuck
    just wanna make a buck
    radioactive chocolate forever and ever
    Buy American, buy Hershey
    they'll sell you death
    with no mercy
    they're gonna gain their wealth
    and risk your health
    radioactive chocolate forever and ever
And all my youth passed by sad-hearted,
    the joy of Spring was never mine;
Autumn blows through me dread of parting,
and my heart dreams and longs to die.

    MULTI-DEATH CORPORATION

    We're the Multi-Death Corporation
    opportune on any situation
    our only concern: capitalization
    and world economic domination
profits are made from global starvation
Russian roulette for the world population
    we need terror and repression
    for third world exploitation
    generals plot extermination
    bank on death and devastation
    sick control, manipulation
    from the Multi-Death Corporation.

    Promises of free expression
    CIA assassination
    State Department: no explanation
    bought and sold legislation
    TV "news" half information
    America prays in isolation
    sick control and manipulation
    from the Multi-Death Corporation.
And all my youth passed by sad-hearted,
    the joy of Spring was never mine;
Autumn blows through me dread of parting,
and my heart dreams and longs to die.

Wal-Mart tries to revamp its corporate image

    Charlotte Moore
    Monday June 7, 2004
    The Guardian

Stung by persistent criticism over its treatment of its workers, US retailing group Wal-Mart is to link executive bonuses to meeting a series of goals on employment diversity.

Chief executive Lee Scott told a meeting of 18,000 cheering shareholders and employees attending the company's annual meeting on Friday that senior managers, including himself, would see their bonuses cut by 7.5% this year if they failed to meet individual diversity goals. The penalty will rise to 15% next year if targets on the employment and promotion of minorities and women are still not being met.

Mr Scott said he wanted to be sure that Wal-Mart, which owns Asda in Britain, is promoting the same percentage of women or members of a minority who apply for any given job, adding that the company had already met that goal for 2003.

A new corporate compliance team has also been established in the US to make sure the company is properly implementing Wal-Mart policy in areas such as pay, working hours and time for breaks.

Mr Scott said the company was piloting systems such as electronic alerts to tell cashiers they should have a meal break.

The retailer - the biggest single private sector employer in the US with 1.3m employees - faces dozens of lawsuits over its employment practices and is the subject of a grand jury inquiry into whether it knowingly used contractors that were hiring illegal workers.

The company also faces a possible class action suit alleging it denies promotion and equal pay to female staff. There have been numerous complaints by employees that they had to work unpaid through lunch breaks or round up shopping carts in the car park after clocking out.

Mr Scott was speaking on Friday at the Bud Walton arena in Fayetteville, near Wal-Mart's headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. Celebrities there to entertain the crowd included the singer Patti La Belle and Oscar winner Halle Berry.

The company also said it was introducing a new job classification and pay structure, although Mr Scott insisted that it will not lead to the reduction of any employee's wage packet.

In a reference to Wal-Mart's founder, Sam Walton, Mr Scott said: "I think we all know how Sam Walton felt about the importance of treating people right, while making ourselves and our business better. In the end that is what these changes are about."

    Good post, Telperion.

A larger supermarket recently opened in my neighbourhood, and it is slowly killing our old local food-shop with lower prices. This will of course hit both the sense of community here, and the old people who used to be able to order food from the local shop. It is sad, but what can be done?

In the U.S., local communities have passed laws to prevent Wal-Mart from moving into neighborhoods and destroying the local economic matrix. But it is a losing battle... just recently Wal-Mart was granted the right to build its first superstore within the Chicago city limits.

Really a great article about the consequences of a monopoly position of a "modern" corporation which has no conscience and knows just the law of maximum profit and care for the shareholders.

    Its a nightmare.
