Then the neoliberals have the hide to chastise the supporters of universal healthcare for being "leaches" and "spoilers" of the healthcare system.
This is exactly what will be occurring with Obamacare and the Healthcare exchanges, privately-owned for-profit health insurance companies will contract with the government and the cost of coverage will be heavily subsidized with taxpayer dollars. Since the taxpayer is going to be footing the bill these insurance companies have a vested incentive to artificially inflate the cost and pad their own pockets. Meanwhile, smaller and more efficient private health care organizations will be run out of business by the other burdensome requirements of Obamacare. In other words, it is the same old collusion between well-connected corporations and corrupt federal politicians that we have come to expect from Washington DC.

What makes it different this time, however, is the cost. Our national debt is already about the size of our GNP, Obamacare promises to double or even triple the size of that debt in very short order. Even raising taxes will have little effect at that point and as the debt grows larger lenders will become scarce. Ultimately, the endless running of the printing presses is going to result in hyperinflation and the collapse of the dollar. This was already a likely scenario with the way our government is operating, once Obamacare comes into effect it is practically guaranteed.

From what I can gather the US has run off the cliff economically, and has yet to begin the plunge to the ground in earnest...though the fallout could take a long time to happen given the scope there is to prop up the system by printing money. That, combined with the unique situation in America where health care funding has become tied directly to a person's employment, or lack thereof, makes it difficult to make useful comparisons between countries. Whatever the case, you'd have to show me the figures in order to convince me that Obamacare will double or triple current debt. I don't believe that for a minute.

I'm not opposed to tax dollars being spent on healthcare - as I said earlier, I favour it because it offers the most economies of scale. Conservatives/neoliberals have an irrational ideologically driven opposition to any sort of publicly funded healthcare system. And America's healthcare system was designed by conservatives/neoliberals. It's all as clear as day, except the conservatives/neoliberals run roughshod in the PR/propaganda department in America, so the majority of Americans don't know what is in their best interests.

What might work in a small nation of 10 million or less will, and relatively homogenous, will not work in a nation of 300 million + with racial minorities making up a third. The larger the population the larger the bureaucracy & the greater the waste & incompetency.

As I have pointed out the US already has public heath insurance, Medicare for those 65+ & Medicaid for the poor. Over 60 million persons are enrolled in the 2 programs combined. These people are getting better healthcare then those in more progressive nations like France, the UK or Germany. Because doctors & hospitals are charging their privately insured patients more to cover up the loses from treating Medicare/Medicaid patients. Without private insurance everyone (but the very wealthy) would be receiving poorer care at greater prices.
