Are You Proud or Ashamed of the Barbarian Stereotype?

Germans were called barbarians by the Greeks and Romans, for their way of life which was thought of as backwards. Was the civilization of Germans a good thing? Ashamed of your past? Was it ok to be barbaric?

I think you mean Germanics instead of Germans?
No there is nothing I am ashamed of.
Civilization is overrated in my opinion,
and the savage stereotype didn't apply to all Germanics.
Germanics had wrath when they needed it (in battle),
but otherwise they had a good lifestyle,
    pro family and pro community.
If someone asks me to feel shame about my distant ancestors from that era,
or uses the barbarian word to make me feel small,
I don't fall into that trap.

The Greeks thought everyone non-Greek was backward and barbarian... I don't know about the Romans. Could you be more specific what you mean by "backward"? And no I am not ashamed of the way the "barbarian" germanics lived, why should I?

Shame of our past is an attitude cultivated by our enemies. By the peoples who want to gain something from the feeling of guilt. I've to say I'm unpleasantly surprised when peoples apologise about the Viking past. The past is the past. It's not something we could change.

In my view, the "barbarians" has both positive and negative things. We still carry some of their traditions through Christianity, which incorporated them.

Were not the Greeks and Romans originally barbarians themselves? Besides, it's not like barbaric practices haven't existed within "civilized" groups even until today. Many civilized practices originated with our supposedly barbarian ancestors.

Our past gave rise to what we became, and if anything it's the "civilized" Christianity (via Greece and Rome) that has weakened us the most in all regards.

Indifferent. The Barbarian stereotype contains many qualities that are to be valued, but it makes no effort to understand our ways and the same can be said about those of us who affirm it in a positive way. The very notion of "barbarism" is the product of foreign (Hellenic) ethnocentrism, subsequently transferred to a universal level by Rome. In this sense, it also mirrors the Judaic concept of "paganism", likewise brought to a universal level by Christianity.

However that may be, it is not a primary concern what outsiders think about us and their approval is not necessary for our desire to seek success. Most importantly, though, there was no need for us to be redeemed by imitating and pretending to be Walha.

It depends on how the term is used. If the word barbarian is used to describe masculinity or warrior like qualities, I would take that as a compliment. Now, if it is used to describe someone with negative destructive qualities, such as the people that I was describing in another post, then that would be an insult. The word barbarian, much like the word savage, has multiple meanings & multiple context. It all depends on the way, that it is said, as well as the context.

The positive Barbarian-Ted Nugent:Ace Guitarist, Hunter, Political Activist, Outdoor Sportsman, Excellent Showman, Fine American & Humanitarian

The Negative Barbarian-Saddam Hussein:Homicidal Maniac, Genocide Engineer, Evil Dictator, Terrorist, & Scum of the Earth

Dont talk bad about my man saddam. I think most white people alive today are primitive in their culture, personality, and intellgience. Sure we all crawled out of the caves sometime, but I don't feel any shame in it. The Greeks and later Romans advanced earlier mainly due to location. Once Germanic people's were in contact with civilization they readily adapted it to their own culture. By contrast many people taken from the jungle today seem unable to conform to civilized culture.

Secondly in many ways Nordics were highly advanced for their time. Consider the Viking ship. I see the goal of my philosophy of life is to always improve. Our culture today is not the same as in the prehistoric age.

Saddam was way more civilized then the americans are. He put the oil money into his people. Under his rule they had the most universities in all arab lands, the highest degree of literacy (higher than in the US), health care was universal (something the US is struggeling with right now), sectarian fights were non-existent and on and on. He was a ruler a folk would like to have.
The black propaganda of the jew media isn't worth a penny.

Barbarians had a way more natural way of life and were in sync with nature. Civilization is destructive to a folk as most don't survive their civilation intact.

The few exceptions are chinese and japanese people. (though the samurai were most likely decendants of the aryan Ainu people. Samurais have to this day a lighter skin then their common people).

Barbarians have a bad positions because the 'civilizations' left their writings behind and see Barbarians as their enemies. Propably because of their vigor in battle and life.

Civilizations are usually made to have an easier life and more convenience in your life, it is unnatural and often superficial.

For me what counts is not what you 'have' but something our distant ancestors would call 'hail' (or Heil). A force which makes superior to others and pertains to a religious connection to other worlds and force which makes that men/women powerful. That what I strife for and i find it more in 'barbarian' settings then in civilizations.

Therefore I am not ashamed in my barbarian ancestors but I am really interested in how they did try to get that force.
