    What a Night! (Question Time)

Just finished watching Question Time on the BBC. Despite a very hostile audience, Nick Griffin came across really well in my opinion. There were a couple of dodgy moments particularly when the Holycaust reared its ugly head but all in all, a great night for the BNP.

Speaking with my wife afterwards, it's clear that this week has been an epiphany for far right politics in Britain. It has been brought fairly and squarely to the masses. I have had whispered conversations regarding immigration with people from all walks of life for years - from solicitors and doctors to builders and factory workers. No one dare speak out loud about their concerns on mass immigration into the UK and Europe as a whole. Most white people are thinking the same things but no one dare say it in public, but things have now changed. This can only bring votes for the BNP. Labour have turned their backs on the white working classes and the BNP are there to pick up the pieces.

Roll on the elections then, as they say I didn't see the debate but it sounds quite good.

The BNP site actually went down today due to 15 000 000 visitors, with 2000 new members, all before the programme even aired. So already it is a success.

it's on the BBC iPlayer now (for 7 days):
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...me_22_10_2009/

I don't know if that's accessable to non-UK residents, but you could probably view (and download) it with a proxy if not.

    Doubt it:
Our Geo-IP technology system recognises IP addresses provided by UK-based internet service providers (ISPs). If BBC iPlayer doesn't recognise your address, you must contact your ISP as they alone can register your address.

I'm not convinced Griffin did a great job, although he had a tough task up against an hostile panel and audience jeering his words. Such a situation makes it near impossible for anyone to be persuasive.
    I think the two main problems were (i) Hostile panel/audience; and (ii) his past;
I think he started off OK but withered under the amount of uncomfortable sounding past facts thrown at him by the crowd and panel, which is understandable, and inevitable.
He looked strong again in his anti-islam bit, but then he's probably quite practiced at that
Then for his final bits about Gately and the BBC I thought he was a bit 'ranty' at the end which might not have helped (I would have preferred a calmer/more neutral mood, but that's my personality).

Various random thoughts I had while watching on TV:

    - Jack Straw got completely destroyed, however this was mostly by the Lib Dem and Tory panellists. Overall if I was neutral I would belive the Lib Dem came across best.

    - Straw said that he 'doesn't know anyone who identifies himself as 'true british' (!!!!!) - if our rulers think we don't even exist that explains so much... these guys are totally out of touch.

    - @ 5:26 of video 1 - angry ranting black guy alert

    - IMO Griffin could have been stronger with the Churchill thing; if he had quoted that Churchill specifically had supported a keep britain white bill that would have killed the opposition stone dead IMO. Instead, I thought the question was still somewhat open for the uninformed.

    - Griffin did a good job whipping out the 'UN defenition of Genocide' to back up his comments (which he was cut off). The Indain/Pakistani woman then said 'how dare you use the definition like that' (and was applauded ). Yes, how dare he, that definition is only for cute, good peoples like Rainforest Indians or Aboriginies or other small, distant groups, not white people (who are evil, and have nothing to preserve anyway ).

-the first guy in the audience gives the typical 'war against a racist fascist state blah blah'. Which is more BS, since the war was never about racism - the USA still had racist laws until the 60's for instance (blacks had less freedom there than in NS Germany!)
I would have sidestepped the nazi/holocaust stuff by just saying that I had no intention of making death camps, and that wouldn't even be possible today, so I don't know why they're bringing them up. However, I wouldn't have any 'nazi' quotes in my past for the media to discover to bring against me

    - the girl at 8:13 of video 2 gives a typically vacant argument, 'there are no ethnic groups because we all came from africa' I don't understand how anyone takes this to heart. Maybe she hasn't noticed, but since leaving africa the human species has diversified a lot (morphologically comparable to the difference between some seperate species in fact), and a myriad of ethnic groups have been formed (and many have also disappeared).

    - Bonnie Greer doesn't have anything going for her other than 'Black Sass' which unfortunately is regarded as some kind of knowledge ('they suffered in the past' adding some kind of sociological authenticity to everything they say in this sphere of discussion, on the 'herd mind'). Take away this social typing and she has nothing. Luckily she shot herself squarely in the foot anyway with her 'back in the ice-age' nonsense, even the audience laughed at her. (I wonder if her reading books for Nick included stuff like Mismeasure of Man ? )

    - He did an OK job with the 'it's not about colour' bit (re. immigration) (for which the audience jeered him again ) but might have made it stronger by mentioning specifically for Eg. that Poles are white, but we wouldn't support mass immigration of them or any other 'white' ethny.

    - The message of the 'tough on immigration' Lib Dems and Conservatives is : we understant that the pace of change is too great and that scares people, so we should contol immigration.
In other words: ''You're dying fast and it scares you, maybe if we slow it down you won't notice until it's too late'

-I noticed Nick trying to be 'fun' with his body language, laughing at points and applauding the opposition and patting Bonnie on the back. I'm not sure how well that goes down, it seemed a little forced to me. Myself I found myself making mocking gestures at some of the abuse aimed at Griffin (eg - 'his serpent tounge' I stuck my tounge out; 'his slithery arms' I acted like I was the creature from the black lagoon) - that might work for me but i suppose it wouldn't with Mr. Griffin, to be fair

This was the biggest point of the whole night, and it was shouted down as you say because there was no intellectual argument that could possibly counter it. 90% of the show was an organized hatefest against Nick Griffin, who had no opportunity to respond most of the time, because of the barrage of baseless accusations that kept interrupting him. Anyone with any sense whatsoever would understand that the BNP was treated unfairly here. The question is, how many Brits have that much sense? We'll see.

That african woman was annoying as hell. She seemed to think everything she was saying was the epitome of wisdom, as so many of them do here. She has as much place running the British Museum as Reinhard Heydrich would running an african one.

I only managed to watch the first ten minutes or so and on the little I did see I have to say that Nick Griffin was far from impressive. It was always going to be a tough gig for him on that programme, the audience were probably ‘hand picked’ and far from representative of the British public at large. The other panellists were overloaded with ‘anti Nick Griffin’ data which would have been awkward to field by anyone, and the opening speech by Jack Straw has to be the longest diatribe that the chairman ( David Dimbleby) has ever allowed anyone to have uninterrupted!

With a hostile audience and a panel all trying to out do each other in attacking Griffin at every opportunity; it was never going to be a fair and even-handed debate. More reason then for Griffin to blast them all with both barrels instead of lamely attempting to curry favour by playing their game to their rules.

I will watch the entire programme and perhaps my opinion with alter, but right now I do not think he did himself justice and although his appearance on the programme was a ‘measured step forward’ he was a bit of a damp squib when I was hoping for a rocket!

I’ll watch the entire show and then post again.
