I do not watch TV for the most part. I will catch a program on the History, Discovery, Science channels or Sci-Fi(SyFY...or what ever it is called now). I also love everything Star Trek.

I don't watch the idiot box, as it's called around here, and not without reason. The TV is a means of brainwashing our generations and I don't want any of that. Back in the day there were other ways to have fun and have a hobby, like reading. I'm surprised how few teenagers read nowadays. It's no wonder the average teenager can't spell properly, if he doesn't read...

You are certainly correct in your assessment. This is what television is transforming our culture & values into.

I hardly ever watch TV. I quite like shows with Gordon Ramsay in them, but I usually watch them online. I pretty much just use my TV for watching movies and gaming.

When I was younger I could not function without it. Even when I wasn't actually watching TV I would leave it on just to have some background noise. Silence use to be threatening to me, but these days I absolutely crave it. Now I spend most of my free time in the central room of the house as it seals off the outside noise better than the others. Here is where I keep all of my books as well as my drafting table.
I still have a TV but only use it from time to time to watch DVDs of good quality movies. The few shows I actually watch are programs like This Old House, The Iron Chef, and Scandinavian Cooking. They are some of the few shows out there that do not seem to follow an agenda to demoralize their audience and are quite pleasant to watch.

I don't really watch TV. I get on the Internet, read encylopedias or watch DVD movies.

I don't really like TV... I don't want to see advertisments. I just want to see what I want, when I want.

We stopped watching tv ten years ago, our youngest four children have never watched tv except a little when we visited my wife in the hospital on a number of occasions.

We started buying movies ten years ago and now have about 2,000 movies, the kids pick a movie when they go to bed and fall asleep to it.
My children do not even understand the concept of a commercial.

I have to say I sure don't miss having tv, but then I grew up without tv as well. My children go out and hike and play outside when they get bored, much healthier than sitting down and not moving.

I might should have had the same approach to computers as well, I am good at building computers and I have computers for all seven family memebers, it is a lot of fun having big multiplayer games and what not, but my children seem to be addicted to playing computer. I limit there time on the computer, makes me real unpopular but it keeps them active.

I find it funny my wife and I have been accused several times by family memebers of abusing our children by not letting them watch tv. Modern science and medicine warns us not watch tv, but when you stop it is amazing how many people even school teachers respond to that in a very negative way.

They can all jump in a lake as far as I'm concerned, I grew up without it just fine and so will my children.

Television is probably my number one vice at this moment.
I am trying to kick the habit but when you live in a dormitory with two sets (one in the kitchen and one in the common room) the temptation is there 24/7. Even if I choose not to turn it on someone else might do. If I lived on my own I would not want a TV anywhere in my home.

98% of TV is worthless, mentally damaging junk that steals time you could be using on something more productive or rewarding: exercise, go for a walk, do your chores, clean up your home).
And be honest: as for those last two percent (documentaries, news, political debate) would you not probably be better of reading a book or a newspaper?

I still watch some TV, but nowhere near as much as I used to. Ever since they finished sending "The Pacific" on Danish television I have stopped following any series. I have stopped watching TV at meal times, instead focusing on my meal and any conversation there might be.
I still watch a lot of DVD's, but I think that if you have to watch TV it is the best way to do it: you are actively choosing what to watch and only for a limited time.
One day I will finally kick the habits. I look fondly back to those times in my life that I have been without TV (primarily vacations) and hope to one day return to such a life.
