Requirements to Wear Mjölnir? / Is Wearing Thor's Hammer Too Cliche These Days?

    Today everyone who is heathen,
and wants to wear a symbol,
but also people who aren't heathen but they want to wear a Germanic symbol,
to honor their ancestors or something,
    always choose the Thor's hammer.
    Don't you think it's a bit cliche,
it has become a bit trivialized?
Especially if used not by heathens.

The only time I get discouraged is when I see mexicans and non-whites wearing it.

    I've never seen a non-white wearing it,
why would a Mexican wear a Thor's hammer?
    Does he know the significance?

It's one of the reasons I'd rather dissuade a non-Heathen from wearing a Thor's Hammer. If, to the average person, the Mjölnir becomes known as a fashion accessory linked to viking metal, white bad-assery, etc., we risk it losing its meaning. Deciding it's too cliche a symbol and thereby abandoning its use ourselves isn't constructive to preserving its meaning either. Rather urge non-Heathens to respect a level of propriety when it comes to others' religious symbolism, and do what we can to educate people about it.

On the other hand, honouring one's ancestors is part of being Heathen, so if they do the former without being the latter, at least it's partially in line with why I wear a Hammer, and I wouldn't be immediately hostile towards such a person. I'd discuss the issue, though, and, at the very least, try to persuade him to properly enlighten other people about the Thor's Hammer as a Heathen symbol when asked about it.

    That's exactly what I meant!
    For some nationalists people,
the Thor's hammer is seen as a fashion accessory.
It's sold for money in many online shops.
    Some people who use it,
aren't aware of its deep meaning.
    They just think it's cool.

I think bringing the "cool" back is a good thing. Sure, once something is "cool" it becomes less exclusive, and some idiots or ignorants start taking the trend. But in a world where being black or of mixed race is considered cool to an extent that white suburban kids listen to rap and act like "gangstas" and all, the fact that metal bands make white kids proud of their ancestry, or that a white heathen symbol becomes cool is to me a good thing. If bringing germanic or white pride back to the world is your goal, your best interest is to make it cool for our youth.

I agree with many of the above sentiments also. It winds me up when "viking metallers" wear a hammer but dont know their Snorri or their Brita Titchenell from their Vikernes. However I do think the recent rise in the mjollnirs adorning our necks is because even in the uneducated mind such symbols come from the folk soul and are written into our blood and cause many to rally to it without fullt knowing why.

it comes from within. If one in every ten "sucker" with a mjollnir wakes up to a heathen path, then that is a victory.

    I agree with Dwarvenmorning,

I have no wish to see the symbol of the Hammer trivialised or reduced in meaning or importance, but can you imagine if they were worn by vast numbers of European youth as a token of their ancestry even if they were not worn for overt religious reasons!

It could be a renaissance in terms of Northern ancestry awareness, and I’m sure the serious religious considerations would follow for many of these ‘Hammer Wearers’ once the true meaning of the Hammer was understood!

Balanced against this idea would be the notion of conserving the exclusivity of the Hammer just for committed Heathens, but we must consider if the sanctity of exclusivity would be more important than the possible opening up of many new converts to Heathenry.

It could backfire I know, but right now I think that I would chance the mass wearing of the Hammer and see what happens!

Added to that I would say that the Hammers should be manufactured in the Northern hemisphere or at least by Bone Fide Europeans living below the equator.
