    Google Street View

What is your opinion of it? Is it a good thing or bad thing?

This is the gravel lane I live on, public road not my driveway. The Google van didn't bother coming up this road.

Same position but 90° to the right. I'm surprised Google bothered to come down this road but they did.

I'm impressed with the streetviews available. I've been looking up the addresses of my former homes from the past 40+ years to see what they look like now. I personally like it.

Oski, I don't know were Æmeric lives in Indiana but we have lots of snakes turtles, lizards, frogs, toads etc. in my area.
The is one snake that is always fun to mess with flattens head like a cobra but is not poisonous, the common names are milk snake, cow snake, false viper, and bull snake.
Sometimes I come across Easter timber rattlesnakes and copperheads but not very often.

Eastern hognose is what I think you are talking about

The bull snake puts up a good show too

I'll post a google image of my favorite place in my county if I can find pictures like Æmeric. I don't know how he saved the street view image ???

Sometimes I come across a black rat snake but it more likely you will see squirrels or deer on these roads. Deer are a particular hazard between sunset &sunrise.

I use Google Earth and Street view almost daily at work. I'm a civil engineer and this new tool saves me ALOT of time. I rarely have to go to the job site anymore to collect data. I can just view Google Earth and Street view instead and get all the information I need.

Now of course that is a personal reason for liking it and not really addressing the big picture, but at the moment I can think of no negative consequence other than the common argument of giving our enemies the greatest tool they could have ever wanted for collecting intel.

We have become complacent in our prosperity and position of power in the world. Something which never lasts long. We may not have National enemies at the moment that could take advantage of this tool in the fullest, but the time will come, probably sooner than we think. If America was at war with the Third Reich now, instead of 70 years ago and we had Google Earth and Street View. We'd be done for.

Now you'd think that we would take these tools away if that time came, when that time comes and surely we would, but it will be too late. They could just archive the images now and save them for later. Which any smart nation would do and just keep updating their database with new images when their published.

What's with you Northerners (relatively, anyway) and your harmless snakes? All I ever come across are Copperheads and Water Moccasins.

As far as street view goes, I've heard that Google has gotten in a lot of trouble with accidental nudity and I read an article a few months ago that said some German town wasn't allowing Google's cameras inside.

How did you save the street view image? When I try it only gives me options like zoom etc.

I just happen to have a pet black rat snake, he shows a recessive trait known as "white sided".

I took a screenshot. I made sure to erase the highway number in the upper righthand corner next to the camera icon before I saved the screenshot.
