    Prussian Folk Dress

I recentaly attended a local Oktoberfest celebration in my home state of Wisconsin, USA. I love the traditional lederhosen and dirndl costumes. I even bought myself a traditional felt alpine hat. These are all mainly Bavarian traditions associated with Oktoberfest.

This got me thinking. My German side of my ancestry derives from Pomern and West Prussia. What is the traditional folk dress for these former Prussian provinces? If I was going to attend Oktoberfest, I would like to resemble a dress, or even just a hat, that most resembles my ancestral orgins rather than mimick the Bavarians.

Can somebody point me in the right direction? Photos? Links?

    Thanks,
    Brian

As a Bavarian, I'm usually a bit wary when an American says - "Hey, Oktoberfest is cool, lasses in Dirndls FTW and Lederhosen are nice, I have hundreds of them, etc. pp." --- but I find it very commendable that you've put some thought into this topic and would much rather wear a folk costume that more closely resembles your own ancestry, as is proper.

I'm not much of an expert on folk costumes from "further afield" but a quick search rendered some examples of the areas you are looking for:

East Prussia and West Prussia - from a stamp

    Pomeranian Island Rügen

A random Pomeranian display of folk costumes

A Pomeranian folk costume from around the Jamund Nehrung:

    Pomeranian folk costume from Pyritz

Pomeranian folk costume from around Belbuck an der Rega

Supposedly Eastern West Prussian folk costume

    Supposedly East Prussian folk costume

    Hoped this helped a bit?

That's why I said supposedly because the only validation I found was for the region itself, and it didn't look particularly German, should we say.
