Berlin or Vienna, Which Capital Would You Prefer for a German Union?

Both these cities used to be capitals of the German empire and they've a vast history and significance.
If all the current German countries would unite, which would you prefer as capital?

Berlin. Not only out of patriotic reasons, but also because I think the capital should lay in Germany proper and not in one of the smaller German countries. I wouldn't like it in Zürich either.

I think Vienna is more beautiful than Berlin so I´d pick it as the capital for a German union. The architecture, the landscape, the people and the typical "Wiener Schmäh" ("a geh, heast..."), the whole mix makes the city great. The people of Vienna are mentally nearer to me than the people of Berlin.

That doesn´t mean I dislike Berlin, in fact the famous "Berliner Schnauze" has something on it´s own, but Berlin`s reputation and self-declared outlook/image is too leftist, liberal...and the city is full of foreigners, degenerated artists, etc.
Vienna has a long history while Berlin was nothing else than a small village some less centuries ago (Friedrich der Große started to upgrade the settlement).

It is also symbolic. It was at Vienna that the muslims got their asses kicked!

A new capital for a new Empire

I would prefer a more central capital, Berlin lies in the far north, Vienna in the far south. Why not try something new?

Cologne for example. It is an important city already, it has many trade shows, more than 30 museums and countless galleries, it was founded around 50-40BC, and its university is among the oldest in Germany. It has a vibrant art and culture scene.
It is also a media center, many TV and radio stations (infrastructure!) are located there. The Rhine as the vein that connects (almost) all of Germany. Lots of positive aspects that would make Cologne a great capital

If we have to choose from the list of the 1-million+ metropoles, my vote would go to Munich. Whilst I have both enjoyed Berlin and Vienna when visiting them, I feel much more of a connection to Munich than either of the two, though perhaps for me it is the more proximate and less removed in terms of mentality.

Another consideration is that of the four largest cities I consider it by far the most beautiful out of the four who would be applicable by size. It is also - that is, if we get back South Tyrol and potentially Welschtirol - the most central, as Berlin, Vienna, Hamburg and Cologne are currently all very close to the boundary.

If I had to pick between Berlin and Vienna, I would pick Vienna though, since this is where the German Emperors sat for several centuries, I somehow still consider it the "secret German capital" due to its tradition of the imperial seat.

The argument that "one of the smaller states" should not have the capital I consider as misinformed - sorry, Todesengel, but if you added Austria as a state, it would be the largest by size, larger than Bavaria even --- that is unless, we return Salzburg and Tyrol rightfully to Bavaria, but that's a different matter altogether...

And exactly this is the reason for my veto against Munich.

While a northern German would have only few problems to identify with Vienna, the common northern German would be strictly against Munich as a capital.
It is worse enough that Germany as such is perceived as a constant October fest with blue & white table clothes from other nations, this need not to be tightened by making it the capital. I doubt people from Frankfurt would happily identify themselves with Munich, and after all, they are still included under the Weisswurschtäquator, let alone anyone further north.
And a German Union, if planned as a real Union in one country, the capital should make it possible for everyone to identify with or at least not be bothered by it being the capital. Munich certainly is one of the cities which would only provoke a new split.

Vienna is full of foreigners and degenerate artists too. And by the time Germany was nationalist enough to regain its empire, the foreigners will have been repatriated already. No nationalist regime would keep them in.

As usual Austro-Bavarians only think of themselves. Munich is too Southern for all Germans to identify with, it would be like choosing a Northern city from Schleswig-Holstein to represent Germany.

I said country, not subdivision. Bavaria isn't a country. Germany is.
