This symptomises the failure of the BZ without Haider.

I am curious whether Bucher was sleeping in early October when Strache and Haider met to discuss joining forces to some extent. Because ever since, they and especially he, have been ignoring Haider's wish to do away with the petty old differences.

I am more so wondering whether Bucher was sleeping back in 1993 when the liberal wing split off to form the failure called Liberales Forum (LIF)? Sure, it's obvious that some Liberals and National Liberals remained in the FP after that split ... but not the full fledged thing. Yet he suggestes that there was always a Nationalist and a Liberalist wing, and that they split in 2005. Yea, right...

Or perhaps they have just noticed that without Haider, they cannot achieve anything when it comes to the more patriotic question. Perhaps they have noticed that they are doomed to fail as a cheap copy of the FP and that's why they feel the need for this re-positioning now.

Because lemme guess - their attempt will now be to get all the Liberal voters back by wishing to be a Liberal party. And then, come election time, they will try to copy the FP's slogans again.

In either instance, this Bucher guy is, quite straightforwardly said, an idiot who doesn't know anything about the big picture, and who wants his own 15 minutes of fame. But he will just become a footnote in the history of Austrian politics - Norbert Steger, Heide Schmidt, etc. ... they have all shown that the liberal experiment is doomed to failure.

But if the BZ wishes to lose the last of its voters - sure, go ahead, I'm not bothered, I knew what a bunch of morons this was even before this nebulous move.

I'm not an expert on Austrian politics, but this should mean death for the BZO, which going on this info, will be no bad thing! It is also a reminder of how constitutional politics is still very much about figureheads.
