Australia Convicts Holocaust Denier for Continuing to Post Anti-Semitic Claims

Australia convicts Holocaust denier for continuing to post anti-Semitic claims

An Australian previously jailed in Germany and Austria for expounding his view that there were no mass killings of Jews in World War II was convicted Thursday of contempt of court in Melbourne for continuing to publish anti-Semitic material on his Web site.

German-born former high school teacher Frederick Toben, 65, was the subject of a civil action by Jeremy Jones, a former president of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, for defying a court order to stop publishing claims that the Holocaust never happened.

Toben, who said he would choose to go to jail rather than pay a fine when he is sentenced later this month, said he had no regrets.

"If you believe in something and you want to have that freedom to express your opinions, then you should be prepared for sacrifices," he said outside the court in Sydney.

Last year, Toben was held in London under a European Union arrest warrant because he is wanted by the District Court in Mannheim, Germany, on charges of publishing material on the internet of an anti-Semitic or revisionist nature.

Denying the Holocaust is an offence in Germany with a maximum jail term of five years.

In 1999, Toben spent seven months in jail in Germany and has served an 11-month sentence in Austria for Holocaust denial.

In 2006, Toben was a speaker at a controversial two-day conference in Tehran organized by the Iranian government and attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. There, he described as "mere puffery" the assertion that mass killings of Jews were carried out by the Nazis.

You can call into question any other mass slaughter of people that has occured in History, from the Holodomar to Timur's exploits. You can insult any other religion, such as making a display of Jesus covered in shit. You can publicly call for the eradication of white people. You can make jokes all day about Catholic priests raping little boys (all of which should of course be legal to do).

But don't you dare question the Holocaust. Or insult the Jewish religion. Or the Jewish people. Or insinuate the rabbis ever do anything criminal. Ever.

Holocaust Critic Fredrick Toben Jailed in Australia

    Source: Telegraph (UK) (8-14-09)
Fredrick Toben, an Australian man who was convicted earlier this year of publishing anti-Semitic material on the internet, has started a three-month jail term after his appeal was quashed.

Toben who is wanted in Germany on charges of denying the Holocaust was found guilty in May of 24 counts of contempt of a 2002 court ruling that barred him from publishing anti-Semitic material on the website of his organisation, the Adelaide Institute.

The material found to be in breach of the order included suggestions that the Holocaust did not happen, that questioned whether there were gas chambers at the Auschwitz death camp, and that challenged the intelligence of Jews who questioned Holocaust deniers' beliefs.

In their verdict, the judges of the Federal Court said the case was not about the Holocaust but about whether Toben had complied with orders of the court.
