Found these while searching flickr.
If anyone here can explain the ‘Pears Soap’ one I will give them three rep point votes!
I had one of these when I was a kid.

I had an ant farm to, and i kinda remember the ad.![]()
Hehe, funny pics.
But the soap one, honestly, I think it doesnt have a deeper sense, although the image reminds me on german saying 'pour out the baby with the bath'... dont know, guess it only made it because it's a cool pic![]()
Velvet, I think you came up with the most plausible answer.
Check out a few of the flickr comments that I found underneath it:
"Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater!"
"So, we shouldn't throw out the bathtub with the baby."
"British advertising at its best - scare them into having a wash."
"This is horrifying! I can't imagine people being influenced to buy anything by this - especially soap!"
"What is this ad trying to say? Too weird..."
"I just don't understand it!!! weird as hell."
"Looks dementedly religious, like something William Blake would paint."
"No wonder I never buy Pears..."
"Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Soap, and we'd love to have this added to the group!"![]()
