Recent European Immigrants Who Identify As "American"

This is a question for Americans.

What do you think about recent European immigrants (by this I mean 1st or 2nd generation for example) who identify as American instead of their home country identity? Do you think a Swede, a Dutchman or a German has a right to claim this identity, without having had ancestors among the founding fathers, old stock heritage or some sort of continuity in your country? Do you consider them your kin, or distinct?

Both. I consider them distinct from Old Stock Americans, but if they are of Germanic heritage, I consider them my kin. I believe they can become American if they adopt our language, culture and customs.

How about a third option, they are TRAITORS to their nation, which is about blood AND soil. Some of them are quite exaggerated in their Americanism which makes them plastic and shallow (whatcha think about that y'all, *hint, hint*).

I'm not an American, but I'd find them as resentful and annoying as those old stock Americans who want to be considered Germans like us.

Perhaps you should accuse your own ancestors of treason in that case, as they have left their original soil (Scandinavia, the ancestral land of all Germanics). Germanics are wanderers, and in any case, I don't believe it is up to you, but to Old Stock Americans, to judge who can become part of the American nation and who cannot.

There is a difference between German and Germanic, I have some German ancestry, but the largest percentage of my ancestry comes from the British Isles, I don't consider myself English as in born in England, but my blood is of that stock.

A nation is made up of its people, if they stay in a certain land that is wonderful, but if our ancestors hadn't left their homelands for better oppurtunity in Europe they would have long since lost their uniqeness and been absorbed into the vast plain of Central Asia or the Middle East.

That is all the people that come to America are doing is taking advantage of oppurtunity, just like the immigrants that come to your country. Would Germany still be considered Germanic to you if it was overwhelmed by Turks and North Africans? It would still be named Germany after all.

I know very well the difference between German and Germanic. I was referring to Americans whose largest percentage of ancestry comes from Germany, not the British Isles or some other place.

How many Americans do you know that consider themselves German as in being members of your nation?

What a load of NONSENSE. Countries didn't exist back then and ethnicities weren't formed, so my ancestors didn't immigrate. They settled and populated Germany. If Germans immigrate to America now, that's not settlement.

The same kind of arguments are used by pro-immigration multiculturalists.

Far more than there should be. There are enough on this forum too.
