We've got every right to sing it, and while it may be depressing, it's a song about a great victory against the English.
What do you suggest in replacement? "Scotland The Brave"? It kinda doesn't have any lyrics to go with it.
Yeah, we do have every right to sing it. I'm just saying that I find the music quite depressing, not the lyrical content. I do prefer "Scotland The Brave" but I'm not quite sure what I'd replace it with.

I do agree that it's a bit of a young song to be considered a National Anthem of sorts; then again, the Lied der Deutschen wasn't much older when it was adopted as an anthem, and didn't even use its own melody (but was at the same time as Gott beschütze unseren Kaiser the anthem of another German-controlled state complex, namely Austria[-Hungary]).

I actually much like the song, it gives me back some of the good memories, and I do find it quite a powerful song. So sure being Scottish is about being fair and friendly, but being Scottish also has another face to it, which is encompassed in that song: that of never giving up, the voice of freedom, the glory in fighting for what you believe is right, and a certain stubborn temper.

So it may be embarrassing to some because it reminds them of kilt-clad, claymore-wielding idiots screaming battle chants after the third flask of whisky. So what? The state Scotland is in, it doesn't need fair and friendly folk, it could well use a couple of more of kilt-clad, claymore-wielding idiots willing to fight for its sake.
-In kalte Schatten versunken...

(Heimdalls Wacht, In kalte Schatten versunken, stanzas 4-6)

The Flower of Scotland is a beautiful tune and definitely one of my favourite traditional bagpipe songs. I do however prefer Scotland the Brave, but the two should have equal status.
This man is an embarrassment to Scottish culture.
