Canadian Protestant Proposal Seen As Anti-Semitic

TORONTO (JTA) -- Jewish groups in Canada are calling a proposed academic boycott of Israel by the country's largest Protestant sect "an "obscene gesture."

The United Church of Canada is expected to offer a resolution at its general council in August calling for a "comprehensive boycott of Israeli academic and cultural institutions at the national and international levels."

Hmm...aren't there some Orthodox Jews who boycott Israel, its political implications, and its produce, because they don't consider it rightful, pointing out that Israel can only exist once a messiah has come (and do not accept Hitler to be that messiah ) --- I suppose, following the logic that a boycott of Israel equals Anti-Semitism, these Orthodox Jews must be pretty Anti-Semitic as well, eh?

This is not antisemitic. Having views that are not Jewish does not mean you are against them. I think what's going on here is asemitism, not antisemitism.

Don't know where to stand on this one. The United Church has really gone off the deep end in recent years with its brazenly liberal pro-gay stance all carefully veiled by styling themselves as "progressive" and "inclusive". But then on the other hand we have some arrogant Jew stating: "This is an obscene gesture by a religious group, and my hope is that Christians will turn their backs on this resolution". Where does this turkey get the nerve to "hope" that Christians will believe something other than they believe. Now that's truly disgusting.

I would never join the United Church, the official Anglicans, or any of these other 'modern, inclusive, progressive' and just plain heretical groups. But it also gets me that opposing Israel makes you immediatly anti-semetic. Many Hasidic and Orthodox Jews boycott Israel, some on religious grounds.
