    Women with Short Hair

Today we see many more short haired women than before. In the early and modern ages, women would almost exclusively wear their hair long. Since the 20s, however, haircuts like the bob and others have started to change the tradition by shortening the women's average hair length and nowadays some styles are so short they seem masculine. So what do you think of women with short hair? I find them untraditional and would frown upon haircuts such as the ones below:

I prefer long hair on women generally, but there are a few gals I've seen that look better with there hair a bit shorter, kinda like in the photo of Jessica Simpson (at least I think that's her -- far right column, 3rd row down.)

Some of the others look kinda butch. One things for sure, that skinhead girl "chelsea" cut or whatever it's called looks utterly horrid.

Hmm, some short hairstyles in the picture aren't very masculine in my view, but very short hair is indeed. When I see a woman with a boyish hairstyle, to me it seems as a tendency to gender equality and feminism, to imitate the masculine styles.

Here some pictures. These styles are what I've in mind when I say masculine styles:

I agree, not all these styles look masculine. Short hair today is more common also because people have become sloppy and lazy. Long hair isn't easy to maintain.

    Yes.
Skinbyrds (and the whole skinhead culture) have very little to do with genuine European culture. The style was inspired from the Jamaican rude boy styles.

It totally depends. Myself I prefer long hair to short hair, I specifically find two lengths particularly attractive on women - shoulder-length and waist-length, these also appear to be the most traditional styles in which hair was worn. Really short hair (boyish haircut type) or really long hair (beyond the hips) I consider aesthetically unpleasing in most cases.

Traditionally, exceedingly long hair would have been somewhat of a status symbol - it would be time-consuming and expensive to maintain very long hair, something that essentially only those in higher social standings were able to afford (especially time-wise). Peasant women would oft grow their hair to their shoulders and then protect it by wearing a headscarf when they worked the fields.

From an aesthetical perspective it entirely depends upon the woman or the hair cut. Fashion styles change as time goes along, many hairstyles considered modern in the 17th century would be laughed about now. The more important question when it comes to aesthetics is - does the hairstyle still look feminine?

Short hair can look feminine on some women, though I admit they are few in number. There is for example one of my exes - when I was together with her she still wore it shoulder-length, she wears it reasonably short now. And it suits her style and character as a type of "warrior woman" without looking boyish, in combination with her face it still looks very feminine.

So the question of whether it looks feminine or not depends entirely on the woman who wears it that way - much like there are some men on whom long hair looks masculine, and other men on whom long hair looks horridly effeminate. Likewise, there are many women on whom short hair looks horridly emasculate, but a few pleasant exceptions to the rule where it looks feminine.

I´d never shorten my hairs to such haircuts. I find them untraditional and unfemine.
In fact, I´ve never had short hairs in any phase of my life...well, besides when I was a baby when the hairs only started to grow.

My hairs were and are always longer and go below the shoulder, most of the time halfway between the shoulder and the hip. Sometimes a little longer, sometimes a little shorter, but I can see no reason why I should cut them shorter.
(You can see the current length of my hairs, my hair-color and my hairstyle quite exactly in my current avatar)

You can make many styles with longer hairs, you´re flexible: Wear them open (as I do most of the time), make a ponytail, stick them together at the backhead, make a coil of hair, etc.

True, it´s more work to keep the hairs in good condition and washing the hairs can be a time-taking strain, but it´s worth the effort and I know no sane man who prefers short-haired "women" over women with longer hairs.

Duh, nothing to run your hair through to annoy the woman during the day, and nothing to dominantly hold onto during the activity of ... private undertakings*.

Personally, the length of a woman's hair is not a criterion I use in assessing their attractiveness (not very romantically put, granted ).

But long hair, on both men and women, can only be seen as a bad thing when they reach a certain age (in their 50s, usually).
I think most individuals do not suit long hair, once they reach that age group, as the hair seems to degrade and become less healthy looking.

I prefer that women have long haircuts because it is a far way to be a better look than women with short haircuts.
