Exclamation Germany Calls for Ban on Neo-Nazi Web Sites Abroad

Germany's Justice Minister on Thursday called for foreign Internet service providers to remove neo-Nazi images, texts and other content that can be viewed inside the country in violation of laws forbidding any Nazi symbols.

German authorities have little control over German-language content hosted by servers in other countries, including the United States.

Justice Minister Brigitte Zypries said her office would appeal to foreign Internet providers to use their own terms of service as grounds for eliminating content promoting the far-right ideal.

[...] Stefan Glaser, spokesman for a youth protection group called jugendschutz.net said it catalogued 1,600 sites run by far-right extremists last year, and that the number was growing.

I'm no neo-nazi, but the way the FRG wants to push its agenda on other countries is disturbing. The USA still has some free speech, what's the FRG's business to tamper with its laws? If someone commits a crime in Germany (or Austria, like David Irving did), he gets judged by German law, not his own, so why should Germans conducting their sites in the US not be judged by US law?

Even still, there are other (better) options. They could censer internet in their own country, like Australia, or China do, or they could just allow people to say, or think what they want, and I'm sure most of the controversy will go away on it's own.

They could, but that would make it so obvious, far too obvious.

    You think so?

We now have China as a paragon of control measures.

Although the law was made on the background of child porn, it is formulated in a way that allows the blocking of every site they wish without further fuss. There isnt even a controlling agency that watchs their censoring.

And it's not that the technique wouldnt be on its way to be activated...

Why are you being logical with dictators? It's like trying to talk a python into not strangling you.

Dictators can be logical, we just have the wrong ones in charge.

It still amazes me, when will politicians realize that can try but they cannot control what we think! Ban symbols? Please, ban yourself!

That quote is one of the best I have heard.

We still have some free speech here, but I am afraid that it is going away

The anti-Germans in the FRG are just infuriated that nationalists use servers in the US and outside of Europe generally, to host their sites there. That's like showing them the middle finger. They don't want their treasonous behavior and lies to be exposed, so they try to forbid them by using the good old nazi symbol excuse.
