Prince Charles: Henry VIII Was An Environmentalist

    Source: Telegraph (UK) (7-9-09)
The Prince of Wales has praised Henry VIII as an environmentalist with a keen interest in architecture.

Delivering this year's Richard Dimbleby Lecture, the Prince said: "Henry instigated the very first piece of green legislation in this country.

In 1543 Henry passed laws to protect forests by preventing shipbuilders from felling too many oak trees.

Uh, yeah... the British media has a reputation for being somewhat disingenuous--especially when it comes to the Royal Family. Did The Prince of Wales actually refer to Henry VIII as an "environmentalist"? Not that I can see. What The Prince of Wales seems to be saying is that Henry VIII was able to realize that there were consequences to the over-exploitation of natural resources; and if someone way back in the 16th Century could do so, and do something to remedy the problem, so can we.
