Germans in Ontario, Canada??

Hello, I've been living in a small town in southern Ontario for a year now, and I'm here for another year..

Is anyone living round here who is German or even German nationalist? It would be great to speak to people with the same thoughts in person, haven't had that in 2 years now.. To learn new things, meet new people and "educate" each other or learn together, that's what would be interesting. If you know of any German groups or live around here, please let me know!

There were German settlers in the Waterloo-Kitchener area. But most of them would be assimilated by now. with the exception of the Mennonites & Amsih. But I'm pretty sure they do not surf the web.

I live in Kitchener-Waterloo, the majority of whites here are of German descent, there is however a fustrating amount of immigrants, especially around the universities in Waterloo.

I graduated from university just over a decade ago and back when I was attending the provincial government (or the university ?) came up with the idea of having a voluntary ethnic survey or something, which I refused to complete. Now when I make the occasional visit to my alma mater I see what may be its legacy or the product of some other sort of policy... Depending on what your concept of "white" is the student body now appears to be somewhere over 50% non-"white". According to a 2008 Globe & Mail article, visible minorities constitute about 16% of the Canadian population. Last year Macleans' annual university survey edition actually ran an article about the perception of the University of Waterloo being "Too Asian?" K-W was once a vibrant German-Canadian community; even the two world wars couldn't extinguish the German spirit of the region. But it appears that Canada's immigration policy will. Personally I'd love to see another influx of ethnic-German immigrants to the region, but as it stands I think immigrants from Germany to Canada only comprise a few thousand per year. And most prefer to head West or to the North.

There are plenty of individuals of German descent, and certainly a smaller German and Austrian immigrant community, most of whom are in the senior camp (65+). My city has German and Austrian social clubs, both of which are very active. Kitchener-Waterloo has the highest concentration of ethnic Germans in Ontario, and in addition to the Mennonites that have already been touched on, there is a sizeable community of Donauschwaben. My great-uncle was a German immigrant, from Dresden, but he passed away two years ago and I do not know what involvement he had with other German expats over here.
