I use AVG, havnt experienced this. Can it be someone injected malicious scripting into the site? Hm
I haven't experienced this. I'm also using AVG at the moment. I've heard Norton isn't a very reliable and up to date anti-virus. I've had Norton once and it found me viruses frequently.
As Siebenbürgerin said, Norton isnt the best antivirus, it could be a hoax (false positive), happens all the time.
Do you use Internet Explorer? If so, I strongly recommend another browser, Firefox or Opera.
I also recommend Avast! as a virus scanner. (please follow the instructions to uninstall Norton carefully, it is important to remove remnants of virusscanner software before installing a new one). Let it do a complete scan once installed, after that it scans permanent hidden in background.
Avast is free for private use, only requires a registration once a year.
Since this alarm could also be caused by a tracking cookie or other 'not to evil' adware, download AdAware and check your computer. If you get an alarm for Alexa, let AdAware delete it, this will cause an error message by IE that you ignore. Alexa is M$' own user behavior tracking tool and opens your computer for other malicious software. Do not surf with IE![]()

I have heard a lot of good things about Avast! . The computer technicians that I talked to when I had a rootkit virus in December all suggested Malwarebytes.com. It is free to download and use and updated very frequently(at least daily). If you buy it it will update and scan daily.

Thank you all for your recommendations. The virus, if indeed it was one, disappeared just as suddenly.
I've heard many excellent things about Firefox as well as Opera. A friend of mine says the Kaspersky, the Ubuntu, as well as AVG are also very reliable. Some people recommend buying a MAC. I will also take a look at Avast.
I have always been of the mind that if you shell out a few more dollars then the service will be better. But, I have heard that there are free anti-virus programs that work just as well, if not better, than the Norton, which uses up quite a bit of system resources. Not good. I thinks it's time for a change.
Anyone ever hear of Ccleaner?
Ccleaner is just a tool for deleting superfluous files, it is NOT a virus scanner
MAC is quite expensive and since it uses the Intel processors it is the same way vulnerable like Windows is. So this is really a useless tip
However, I assume you really use IE? [hystery]**OMG**[/hystery]
Basic security for your PC:
Browser: Firefox, Opera or another, main point: NOT IE
Mail client: Thunderbird (main point, NOT Outlook or other MS software)
Virus Scanner - Avast! is really nice to your RAM, never had any problems with it, updates itself every few hours with current definitions and checks with several tools your mail and your internet traffic constantly and blocks infested files before they come to your harddrive.
Firewall - there are some free programs out there (again main point is not the built-in Firewall by M$, if you have XP or higher).
A software firewall is not that effective, nonetheless a good tool. Mainly it has an eye on programs that try to connect with the internet, so unless the virus is a root kit, you will be informed. Allow only FF/Opera and the Mailclient for permenent internet access, all other program have to ask, and deny access when the 'windows services' want to accept connections from the internet.
Do not open suspicious mail attachments, do not open mails you dont know, do not click on ads with blinking signs on websites, dont surf porn sites.
I strongly recommend Firefox, install AdBlock Plus for ad-free internet, install script-block and allow Javascript only for certain sites (that you trust), disable automatic cookie acceptance (both you'll have to allow for sites where you log in).
Most likely you'll never see a virus again![]()

Apple software? Mac comes with WindowsWord/Office, 'cause Apple never managed to create own writer software. Mac comes with Intel processors, 'cause Apple never managed to create a processor faster than 700, Mac comes with Internet Explorer or one of the now possible *nix-derivate browsers, 'cause Apple is just a calculator with internet access![]()
