Thank you for the great picture, it is actually not the old flag, it is the flag everyone had respect for. Amongst even the enemy it was viewed with respect, it stood for order and respect for the law. The new flag is even painted on minibus taxis, it has become a symbol of lawless barbarians, and ultimately will be seen as just another symbol of idiots at work.

I was wondering... the new flag, this, , what does it actually stand for/symbolize exactly? I looked it up and, I've seen various interpretations. From Wikipedia:

For example, in 2008 the KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sibusiso Ndebele attributed the following meanings in an official speech:

    * black = black, Indian and coloured people
    * red = the violence that lead to freedom
    * white = the colonial and apartheid past
    * green and blue = the beauty of our land and ocean
    * yellow = no meaning attributed - the Sun - ambiguous

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health published the following meanings in a 2008 newsletter of theirs:

    * red = hardships fought in the Struggle
    * black and white = the different people of South Africa
    * yellow = our mineral wealth
    * green = our fertile land
    * blue = the African sky
Afrikaners generally hate using it as far as I know, but I've seen people display it on at least two nationalist fora, and some of them were even Afrikaners to boot.

My opinion is, the old flag is a good choice because it represents South Africa's dual heritage, the two major white ethnic groups there, who are descended from the Dutch or the English. I'm English descended, but I know some Afrikaners have feelings of oppression towards it because of the British flag.

It's still a better choice than the current one; at least we agree on that.

Basically it was an attempt to mix the ANC flag of black, green and gold with the "old" flag of orange, white and blue.

The ANC website says of its flag:

The colours of the ANC flag are black, green and gold. Black symbolises the people, green the fertility of the land, and gold the mineral wealth beneath the soil. These colours were adopted by the ANC in 1925.

    Goeie naand.

To me the old flag was a symbol of the National Party of that era and of a failed political system. Not only left wing radicals were prosecuted under this flag, but also some of our fellow Germanics who supported higher ideals and rejected the moral and spiritual decay caused by that inorganic system.

But the flag long predated post 1948 NP rule. Indeed, many nationalists resented the british flag's presence there.

    anti-BOER vlag

Ek se 3 provinsies want ek sien Suid Wes Afrika nog steeds as'n provinsie van my land.
