    With Blot and Sumbel...........

We'll gather round the stone Horgr/Altar Satyrday Evening, the 20th, for a Balder Blot.
We'll Lift Horns full of Mead & Ale to Honor Him.
We'll likely burn a Sun wheel.
We'll make Sumbel Toasts & Boasts, maybe a poem or so.

Then back to the House, for a Feast.
I'm not sure what the menu will include yet.
At Noon on SunnaDay, DSW & I will go out to Lift Horns to Sunna.

It's Fathers Day in the US, so I'll likely get a call from a couple of my grown DChildren and maybe even one or the other of my grown DGrandchildren.
I'll likely get a Fathers day card or 2 also.
One of my DDaughters & her Family may drop by, but, maybe not
It's all mostly the same each year.

I will probably have 3 of my fellow heathens over and their families for a blot and sumble, not sure what we are eating just yet. I hope we can get some activities figured out, especialy for the kids.

I´m planning nothing special due to a lack of heathens in my region.

During the recent years I often went to a wonderful wood glade within our local forest and celebrated it for myself. If the weather plays along I´ll take something to drink and some food with me and enjoy the tepid dusk there on a coat. When it becomes too dark I´ll go home.

Well, as some kind of compensation I´ll pick on Sigurd a little bit today.

In Sweden we don't celebrate the Summer Solstice per se but Midsummer, which is a Friday close to the solstice.

A friend of mine had a summer cabin in the archipelago here on the west coast. A dozen or two of us used to go there and camp on his lawn. During the day we would swim, pick clams, barbecue, drink beer, raise a midsummer pole and just socialize.
In the evening we would lite a bonfire, drink vast quantities of moonshine, tell strange stories, sing and pass out in the grass.
The day after we would regret ever being born and try to stay in the shadows, being very careful not to move our heads.

But the last few years I've spent midsummer in solitude on some of the surrounding hilltops. There's always some kind of hill-fort or burial site where you can sit down and contemplate over the meaning of life, while watching the sun set and rise again. I usually just bring a couple of beer, some sandwiches, a sitpad and a blanket. Depending on the situation I've sometimes made a small fire.

This year I will however visit my parents and we'll probably have an ordinary stay-at-home midsummer including the traditional smörgĺrdsbord-type midsummer diner with new potatoes, several types of herring and a couple of snaps.

Well, Sigurd, it's my mistake then. It seems I didn't know that they are different things, but I know from now on. Thanks for informing
I still have many things to learn...

To answer my own question of the thread, I still am not sure what I'll do this year, I'm still pending between celebrating by myself or with a few fellows... [The problem is that in the area I live, if I chose the second option, it may be something like a mixed celebration. I would probably be the only person of Germanic descendance. Also, one of the persons who may come is half Russian, so he has other customs which he is fond of. More over, there is a North Thracian/Dacian/Romanian tradition too, for the Summer Solstice... But I am here not to promote any celebration which isn't in the Germanic spirit, but I am here to discuss and to find out more facts, and even more, to refine my Germanic identity, which is hard to keep in this mess of peoples and traditions.]
In general I use to celebrate by myself the heathen festivals, but there are also some exceptions.

Maybe I had to ask too, what will you celebrate?

I have no idea what I'll be doing for solstice or mid-summer. During that time I'll be working up at a camp in the mountains which is wonderful but the Boy Scouts have a pretty strict policy on alcohol, though it has been ignored in the past . The fire season is going to be bad this year as well so I don't know if I'll be able to do much of anything. If I do though it will just be something quiet by myself in the woods.

I was thinking about doing something similar.
But well, the local 'forests' are full of dogs and unpleasant people, so it's not such a great option if I intend to go alone. It's more likely that I'd go to a place I know and which is very fine to enjoy the day, but I have to leave early, because it is part of a Botanical Garden and it is closing by 6 or 7 pm.

There is a wonderful mountain not very far away, full of some sort of mysterious power. To be honest, I was thinking of going there for this summer solstice. Even if I go alone, there I won't be alone, as there are lots of tourists, but I can manage not to notice them. The problem is that it is a natural reservation, so I can't light any fire there...
