Hehe, indeed, never got the obsession with that either

I was out with my boyfriend to Icehockey few times and when the WMs were on TV we watched it, but although I find it not uninteresting, it never really got me.

I used to enjoy Formula1, but when they started to mess with the rules I lost interest a bit. Missed the last two years completely.

Occasionally I like watching showjumping, and horse races, but they are quite rare at tv.

    And I enjoy watching Snooker.

I've tried to emulate the feelings that my friends experience when watching sports. I cannot do it. Yep, I tried being a poser for like a day a few times. I failed everytime.
Now I just hold sports in contempt and openly express my true feelings about them. Mostly because I work on one side of two stadiums (Ravens & Orioles) and live on the other side. So I must transit downtown rush-hour + Stadium event traffic all the time. I say to myself like a grouchy old man: Goddamnit! I must be delayed an hour getting home because of a goddamn GAME. A game! A friggin' spoofed-up 'checkers' and shyte. hehe

I haven't the slightest clue what "Snooker" is.

It's billiard, but I don't get the rules, so it's not that interesting to me at all. I prefer pool billiard (because I can follow it)

Snooker is quite common in german (european?) TV though.

I myself enjoy ice hockey, american football and chess (seriously!). I can't really say I'm "following" any of these on a regular basis though.

    You dont know Snooker?
It's like totenlicht said, a sort of billiard, but with bigger tables and other rules. This is the artist's version of ordinary pool billiard

The Rules are dead easy - so, OK, they're more complicated than with pool billiard, but at least compared to Pool the rules are the same the world over, and not every country and every pub has its own, something that can be a bit annoying when out in the Scottish countryside.

I'm excitedly awaiting the finale of this year's Formula 1 championship. With two races to go, there's still three drivers able to clinch the title (Button 85, Barrichello 71, Vettel 69), which is exciting --- and especially considering that it's been done before, Räikkönen was 17 points behind Hamilton in 2007 at this stage and still did it by a single point.

I'm hoping for Vettel to win the title. Button may be a Germanic, but he's a conscienteous race-mixer. Button's girlfriend is half-Japanese, I'm afraid I'm taking it to that extent as well. And of course, Vettel is German, with an immense talent, and could be Germany's next Schumacher, sort of thing (minus the unfair title decisions, hopefully, that is )...

Other than this, let's check the other sports I'm following...

Football? My team's been improving on its form and still in the race for promotion, but Austria's national side has gone back to mediocre. The performance at yesterday's 1-3 loss against France was sorely wanting in many aspects, mainly the ability to cope with a fast-paced game.

Tennis? Jürgen Melzer may have won a Doubles Title last week, but his Singles form has gone back to normal: Two points away from winning the game in straight sets, loses a tie-break, then loses the entire game pretty quickly. Mental thing, really. It's really a shame, because his craft is much superior than his performance, he'd long be a Top-10 player if it weren't for his inferior nerves.

Skiing? Oh well, they dropped a bomb yesterday: Hermann Maier is calling it a day! That's going to be a bit hard to cope with ... of course there'll be new ones, but let's face it: He's been a near-enough constant feature ever since I was 8 years of age, it's going to be difficult to see that there's no more races with the "Herminator" competing for the win. In a way it's ...harsh.

Well, that's the main news I've got for you there at the minute.

I´ve to agree wholeheartly, his resignation came as a shock to me! I was absolutely sure that he´ll pe a part of the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in a few months. Maier said he´s in a good shape and that his preparation for the new season was running very well so I can´t understand why he resigns some weeks before the beginning of the new season. It´s an Olympic season after all. There must´ve been a severe incident, I can´t explain it otherwise.

I´ll miss the Herminator dearly. Er war ein Star, der trotz Riesenerfolgen und schweren Schicksalsschlägen (wie seinem Motorradunfall) immer auf dem Boden geblieben ist und nie abhob.

When I was sixteen I only cared about football. Now I care about a few more things, but old habits die hard. Well, even the pope said football is the most important side matter in the world, so I guess it's dogma now.

Next week there's Club Bruges - Partizan Belgrado, and I'm definitely going to see that game.

Club better wins too, or my whole week will be ruined. I can't start to describe how much pain and stress I've suffered over the years, because of watching football, all for those few moments that and come and go, moments of intense joy, glory and pure bliss. And it's so totally worth it.

It's going somewhat better with Austria's national football squad compared to a decade ago, and the four Austrian clubs in the Europa League never cease to amaze me, not a single Austrian team was eliminated in the preliminary knockout stage.

These are the group results so far:

Rapid Wien - Hamburger SV 3-0 ( What happened over there )
Celtic - Rapid Wien 1-1 (I Bet Celtic didn't expect this!)

Sturm Graz - Dinamo Bucuresti 0-1
    Galatasaray - Sturm Graz 1-1

    Lazio Roma - FC Salzburg 1-2 (!!!)
FC Salzburg - Villarreal 2-0 (!!! LOL, Salzburg actually defeated a Spanish top team )

Athletic Bilbao - Austria Wien 3-0
Austria Wien - Nacional Funchal 1-1

So it's not all bad, Sigurd, on the contrary - these results vary from excellent to good, and even Austria and Graz still have a sweet chance of ending second in their groups. Also, Ernst Happel, Austria's best footballer ever, is a legend in Bruges, he's regarded as the best coach Club Bruges has seen. My side played ECI and ECIII finals during his reign. I've always wondered how much his Hitler Youth past influenced him, 'cause Ernst Happel was quite a character, and half cult figure, I must add.
