    Hello,

I tend to loosely follow Olympic swimming, gymnastics and ice skating.

I follow American football, both college and pro (Notre Dame and Buffalo, respectively) I also try to keep up with my footie teams, but it's almost impossible to catch a game on American TV, I get maybe 1 Manchester United game a month and have yet to find a (Glasgow) Celtics game on at a decent hour.

Ice Hockey Players walk on water...

I was watching a boxing fight the other night when a game of Ice Hockey broke out.

    Aaahhhh....bad joke I know.

Personally I am a big fan of this sport. It's fast-paced and ferocious. And a team sport that is actually dominated by whites!

Unfortunately down this end of the world we only get coverage of the NHL and the World Champs.

And as a local sport Ice Hockey is only developing here in NZ. We pretty much suck at it. lol.

Oh wait. I feel another bad hockey joke coming on...

Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Steve Yzerman all die and meet in heaven.
God is sitting in his chair waiting for them.
God says to the three legends, gentleman before I let you in, you must tell me what you believe.
"Mario we'll start with you, in what do you believe?"
"I believe hockey is the greatest thing in the world and the best sport in history"
To that god says "take the seat to my left"
God then turns to Steve and says, "Steven, in what do you believe?"
To which Steve replies "I believe to be the best, you've got to give every ounce you've got!"
To that god says "take the seat to my Right"
God then turns to number 99 and says "Wayne, tell me what do you believe?" To which Wayne replies I believe you are sitting in my seat.

Aside from hockey, coming from this end of the world it is a sin to not follow Rugby. Soccer (football) is not a particularly popular sport here. You are generally considered to be soft if you play soccer and not rugby.

Motorsport is also another sport I follow closely. The V8 SuperCars are massive here in New Zealand and Australia. And we generally follow kiwi's doing well in other motorsport such as the Indy Racing League where Scott Dixon is tearing up the track.

Outside Oceania, this also applies to Rugby. And in Lithuania that even applies to Basketball.

When is Germany going to finally take up the challenge of Rugby? I think a blitzkreig maneuvre in the scrums could be quite effective.

A white basketball team?!! Now that would be something to see yeh. lol.

    Extroverted Sports vs. Introverted Sports

You can generally gauge a man's intelligence, by his degree of interest in sports.

For example: If 100 men are selected at random and you had to rank each according to their intelligence. If the only piece of information available was their degree of interest in sports, and you ranked them accordingly, you would approximate the order of rank better than random selection alone.

    However, I like:

Baseball, American Football, Football, Hockey, MMA, Tennis, Golf, Volleyball, Rugby, Lacrosse... basically all of them.

Just Kidding, I don't like any team sports.

I tried though. All my friends love team sports and since I'm with them from time to time, I tried to capture the excitement and interactivity as they do. It didn't work, eventually I gave up trying. I just don't have it in me. I do however, like personal sports where the challenge is you vs. yourself; like spelunking, mountain climbing, etc.

Oh, I do love watching MMA, not a fan of boxing though. I enjoy watching the Olympics as well.

Valky will be delighted to know that Sybille Bammer appears to be Serena Williams' least favourite opponent: Today, she threw her out of the competition YET again (she has done this before) in two sets. That is considering that Williams is World #2!

Alright, after having thrown out the top-ranked Pole (World #14 Agneiszka Radwanska) in the 2nd round of the $2m tournament in Cincinnati, and now the top-ranked Negro, let's see how she will fare against a Serb --- World #5 Jelena Jankovic.

I hope that she will manage even this surprise. I doubt that Sybille will be able to win the tournament to make it this year's second after Prague, but perhaps she can get quite far! She is already in the Quarter Finals of this world class event and has already eliminated two high-ranked players! And hardcourt is her best surface after all!

Being born in South-Africa Rugby is almost surely the game of choice for most Afrikaners myself included (RoyBatty excluded ). The English population are also very fond of the game though a large proportion of them are avid European football fans.

Currently the Tri-Nations competition is running in the Southern Hemisfeer. Arguably the toughest contest between the three greatest Rugby playing nations:

South-Africa played 3 and has 12 Log points
New-Zealand played 3 and has 4 Log points
Australia played 2 and has 1 Log point

    Go Bokke!

Cricket is also a favoured sport in SA, NZ & AU this, as is the case with Rugby it is due to the colonial backgrounds of our Nations. I follow Cricket in summer and particularly enjoy it when SA plays England or Australia. It is a multi fasette game, and can be tricky to get a grip on because of this but once one has an understanding of it; it truly is a wonderful game. For anyone who would like to explore cricket a bit I would suggest starting with the twenty20 format.

F1, McLaren Mercedes and Braun GP are the two teams I prefer to win, but anyone will do in front of Ferrari. F1, in my mind at least, is the ultimate blend of Human skill/prowess and technological advancement.

Then there is only one American ‘sport’ that has been able to impress me in anyway and it is Rodeo. Craziest thing I’ve ever seen, I particularly prefer Bronco Riding but Bull riding does have its moments.

Here is a short list of dislikes and reasons.

Golf: Definitely not a spectator sport.

Football: or as we call it soccer, was historically the Negro’s game in SA and in all honesty still is. 90 minutes for a goalless draw, I can hardly contain my excitement.

Tennis: Also not a spectators sport. As another SA claim to fame Roger Federer mother is Afrikaans and one can still observe her accent in interviews, His Father doesn’t outwardly appear Germanic though.

WWF: no kidding some people think it is an actual sport.

Swimming: Allot of SA swimmers leave our country on bursaries to USA and become americanised to the point where they can’t even speak their own language properly. Grape smugglers...

Aussie Rules: Netball and soccer rolled into one need I say more.

All American sports with a ‘World Series’ competition is a joke.

It’s a pity Germany doesn’t compete in Rugby at our level; this is probably due to the fact that Football is so big in Germany. It would have been great to measure SA against Germany if involvement in Germany was as widespread as in SA.
Although the word "Commando" was wrongly used to describe all Boer soldiers, a commando was a unit formed from a particular district. None of the units was organized in regular companies, battalions or squadrons. The Boer commandos were individualists who were difficult to control, resented formal discipline or orders, and earned a British jibe that"every Boer was his own general".

Strangely enough, Rugby has a long tradition in Germany, longer than most European countries, and in 1939 Germany was considered the second best continental (that is non-British ) side in Europe, just after France, whom they also beat twice.

Between the national team's first game in 1927 it took ten years for Germany to lose to a different team than France, this was Italy in 1937. Rugby was Albert Speer's favourite sport and he was a fervent player of as well.

During the war, many players, especially many notable players in the national team died, German rugby never recovered from this.

It now plays as a Division 1 team, the second highest tier of European rugby, but the 2009 record has been dismal so far, so I almost expect Germany to be relegated to Division 2A again.

Austria fairs even worse, we are in Division 3C, LOL.
