Post Neanderthal remains found in Montenegro

On May 14th in Crvena Stijena ( Red Rock ) Near the city of Niksic a tooth that belonged to a neanderthal man was discovered.

This is the first Neanderthal find in the wider region, the researches will be continued.

In the Crvena Stijena locality up until now there were excavations from 1954-1964. During this research a large ammount of objects from the middle palaeolithic era was found. Unfortunately, the excavations were discontinued for 40 years.

I guess this is much better than my poor translation from the not-so-detailed article from the papers

    Neanderthal's tooth discovered in Montenegro
    May 16 2004 at 10:30AM

Podgorica, Serbia-Montenegro - Archaeologists in Montenegro have discovered a tooth believed to belong to Neanderthal man dating back between 40 000 and 150 000 years, a museum official said on Saturday.

The tooth was found in Crvena Stijena (Red Rock) and "belonged to Neanderthal man," Zvezdana Lucic, director of the museum in the northwestern town of Niksic, told reporters.

Mitra Cerovic of the Montenegrin Centre for Archaeology Research said the discovery had been confirmed by US experts from the Archaeology Museum of the University of Michigan.

"All research and analogies show that it was a tooth of a Neanderthal," Cerovic said, adding that research would last between five and 10 years. - Sapa-AFP
