Existentialism is about 'doing', rather than about 'thinking'.
The Existentialist calls life 'the Absurd' as he grapples with the futility of action; to 'act' in a world without meaning, a world devoid of all meaning?
THAT is Absurd.
Albert Camus's Absurd-Heroes are actors [of the stage variety] and 'conquerors' - he equates the two.
"You see a 'Great Man'? - I see only an Actor and his Ideal".
[Nietzsche]
Life's tragedy is that we are born 'doing' before we start 'thinking'.
Can then thought set things a-right?
Not thought of the rational type which tends to literally 'rationalise' in a usually self-flattering way.
No, it must rather be thought that is open to the subliminal, to the subconscious; open to the irrational, the INSANE, the creative ...
Existentialism then, is rather about 'being' [ in the sense of "to be or not be" - Hamlet as Existentist-Hero], about 'existing', in all of life's absurdity and suffering; and in NOT taking the easy way out [whether through intoxication, suicide etc.,].
Are we all Existentialists today without realising it?
