Office Job or Outdoor Job? Sedentary or Dynamic?

What kind of job do you do? Many people today work office jobs and I don't think it's healthy. Being locked up in an office for 8 hours/day must be aching. But manual labour outside and jobs like truck driver can be tiring too. How do you deal with your job?

I run around looking at dirt and stones, and it is great
I sometimes do have to be at the office though.

It is frustratingly boring at times, I also suffer from sore muscles and back/shoulder pains. Due to the lack of physical activity, absense of sunlight and the sitting posture, I feel emotionally drained at times.
Worst of all, I am subjected to passive smoking all day long.

Good idea. I can also sue them for giving me back pains and then I don't have to work anymore

If what you meant is how do I make my office hours more pleasant?

When it's too noisy around me I put on headphones and listen to music (most of my colleagues do that as well).

I keep a few plants on my desk (cacti and succulents). Those are supposed to absorb some of the monitor radiation and also filter the air, plus they soothe the eye

I get up and stretch my muscles every now and then...sometimes find excuses to go out in the sun a bit, such as the pharmacy or the mini market...

I nag them to death about smoking and they usually go out in the corridor.

P.S. the best job I've ever done was research assistant that involved lab work.

It involved both office tasks and lots of running around, also teaching and running experiments. It might have been exhausting but I never had one boring day at work

I´m working in an office and it´s not that bad. I had an other job before (also in an office) but it was just horrible and too stressful, so I left and changed the company. Now it´s fine, especially because I work only part-time. This means less money but also less stress - around 5 hours a day in an office are better than 8 hours in an office.

Well anyway, when I give birth to my child I´ll be away from the office for a long long time - and I´m looking forward to it! I´ll be a stay-at-home mother.

I work in an office, also part time because of my child. Being a single mother isn't easy. You have to work to support your child, but you can't leave his education and growth completely in the hands of strangers either.

I don't work right now (devoting time to studies) but I think I would dislike an office job, unless it was in a relaxed environment or part-time. My ideal job would be one that required the majority of time spent outdoors but also a little time indoors doing analysis or something like that. Too bad I'm not going into field biology.

Usually, I am either outside or inside, never in an office. That is one thing I would have a hard time with. For the last 3 years I have been building houses start to finish. The good thing about this is every day is a different project and I know where I'm going to be for the next 12 months. The down side is that as long as its raining, snowing, hot, sunny and humid or freezing, We've been outside. When it's 69-78 F, I'm stuck indoors. I have no luck with weather and timing whatsoever. And of course the economy is not conductive to real estate right now. Evidence: We had 2 prospective customers who were going to build vacation homes this spring. As of December they backed out. I do have almost 2 years into a degree for architecture, which I would love to pursue, but I'm not ambitious about working at an office or even going back to school for another 5 years.

An office job is out of the question for me since I cannot sit down in a cubical for 8+ hours a day. I like moving about and standing for long periods of time which is why my current job is ideal. It's physical and need to use math everyday.

Since my job is physical I deal with it my making sure I get adequate rest and stretch before doing anything. Sleepy and groggy days do nothing but hamper my capabilities.
